Nadira Adam As Cover Story – October 2023 Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

As a free-spirited soul, albeit a short one in stature But I usually go by the name of Nadira

Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?

Looking back on my childhood I wouldn’t change much as I realize now that it was an awesome one! But there were difficult paths to navigate as any kid endures in the trajectory of life. My height (or rather lack thereof) taught me lessons of defence and I was quite feisty to begin with. I always knew what I wanted and had to sometimes rebel to make my voice heard when I believed in what I was fighting for. This allowed for some pretty great moments like becoming the captain of an all-boys volleyball team and leading us to victory, playing football and baseball, joining an anti-drug campaign and how could resist the debate team when the opportunity arose!

Growing up during the apartheid era in South Africa opened my eyes to the prejudices endured by those oppressed and further ignited my will to be treated fairly and to respect and treat all others as equal.
I love how life has taught me lessons that only now I have come to appreciate and to embrace my failures and not to see them as such, but rather as stepping stones to the person I have become today. So, I see every bad thing as a good one in disguise, encouraging me to continue to grow and evolve.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

We were not privileged. In fact, quite the opposite. My parents did their very best to provide for our family and in striving to do so, were caught up in gambling from the time I was ten years old. The trials and tribulations of sometimes having plenty to times when there was hardly anything at all, from the highest highs to the lowest lows had me growing up faster than I would have liked but moulded me enough to know that that was a path I would never want to take, no matter the cost and would pave the way for me to make a success of anything I put my mind to.

What do people usually not know about you?

I’m pretty much an open book. What you see is what you get, but although I may seem to be a complete extrovert, I am secretly very much the introvert. I love spending time by myself learning and exploring whatever piques my interest.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

I am a people person. I first and foremost believe in treating people with respect and empathy. Sadly, this hardly exists in the corporate world. I don’t believe in stepping over anyone to get ahead and I certainly don’t believe in playing games to do so either. I believe in the power of humanity and in strength in numbers.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m currently working on quite a few, so watch this space!

What are your food preferences and physical attributes?

Hahah! My love for food reflects in my physical attributes or rather appearance! But I like to think of it as since I could not grow in height, I grew in width I am a sucker for mediterranean cuisine and even more in love with desserts.

Your love life, relationships and family?

I am happily married to my husband whom I met when I was 12 years old. We were friends who fell in love much later in our 20’s. We have two sons who have turned into handsome and respectable young men and now my husband and I find ourselves dating each other again.

What expert advice would you like to give?

You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. I was just a housewife when I decided to take the plunge into sales again after a long absence in the industry and I have achieved so much that I never knew I was capable of. Believe in yourself. You owe nothing to anyone but yourself and don’t allow anyone the power over your self-worth!
