Avi Wiseman As Cover Story Interview – June 2026 Magazine Edition
Avi Wiseman
Avi Wiseman is an accomplished art director, film composer, and opera singer whose work bridges visual storytelling and music across cultures. As a leader at Hollywood Hills Magazine, he champions meaningful, fact-driven content while earning recognition for scoring award-winning international films, including Tshuva and Holocaust Day. Drawing on classical training and expertise with global instruments, Wiseman creates emotionally resonant experiences designed to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact. Through both his artistic and editorial work, he remains committed to authenticity, craftsmanship, and storytelling with substance.
How do you introduce yourself?
I am an Art Director and film composer. I oversee the visual direction of Hollywood Hills Magazine alongside my business partners-film producer Ariel Lavi, Becca Brazil, and Markos Papadatos. We ensure our layouts and editorial focus remain centered on positive, substantial storytelling rather than gossip. Beyond design, I score films and television shows, writing for everything from traditional orchestral sections to Middle Eastern and Chinese instruments.
I was nominated for Best Score at the Veneto Film Festival for Tshuva, starring Shani Atias. Another film I scored, Holocaust Day, won 10 awards, including the Mission of Bridging Entertainment Award at the Sorrento Film & Food Festival, and screened at high-profile events like Capri Hollywood.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
During the pandemic, there was a significant drought in commissions. Beyond that, building mutual trust with directors on a personal level takes time. When we sit down for a spotting session, we decide together exactly where the music belongs. Often, a music supervisor and the director will have two entirely different visions, and it becomes a game of endless ping-pong. However, once those decisions are solidified, you realize you cannot take any part of that creative process for granted.
What do people usually not know about you?
People usually do not know that I have been an opera singer since I was young. I have sung in several languages, including Russian and Italian, and as I grew up, I discovered Estonian and Ethiopian music and chants. I have a deep appreciation for so many different styles and cultures that it is actually quite hard to surprise me musically. Also, I experience a rare phenomenon that yields absolutely zero search results online-something I look forward to sharing in the future.
What sets you apart from others?
My composition teacher once told me, “Avi, when the audience sits down to hear your music, they don’t have to stay until the end. They can get up and walk away.” Ever since then, I have understood that it is my responsibility to keep them in their seats. I have learned how to distill memorable themes, lyrics, and emotions so that they stay rent-free in the audience’s minds. The same philosophy applies to visual art direction. The concept behind Hollywood Hills Magazine is simple, memorable, and mature. An audience values your work when you satisfy them through contrast and choose layout compositions that keep them hooked. They simply cannot look away.
As a composer, I blend classical training-having studied composition, piano, brass, strings, and theory-with regional instruments like the hulusi and suona. This allows me to write scores that sound authentic across cultures, much like my recent work for award-winning international films.
Whether I am working on a design or a music production, I make sure the final product deeply moves me. But beyond my own feelings, the music I create is meant to guide the audience’s reaction. As a highly empathic person, my greatest strength is foreseeing exactly how an audience will receive what they hear or see. This requires sheer honesty. I strip away my own ego and personal desires-something many artists struggle to do-and I often wish more creators shared that same perspective.
What are your upcoming major events?
Soon, I will be returning to perform on the big stage in a full stadium, just as I did last year. I am also preparing to score a new film as soon as the script is finalized.
At Hollywood Hills Magazine, we are rolling out extensive new features and serving as a media partner for the Miss England contest, where we are coordinating their editorial coverage. This all comes on the heels of a very busy season spent managing international music festivals and launching our magazine’s podcast.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Keep your narratives substantial. Whether you are scoring a scene, designing a magazine spread, or writing a press release, avoid shallow angles and focus on the facts. If you are building a brand, rely on clear typography and high-resolution imagery-never settle for low-quality visual assets.
If you are producing music, take the time to learn physical instruments before relying entirely on digital libraries. Understanding exactly how an oud or a cello physically resonates will completely change how you arrange a track. Finally, be open to taking on ghost-artist gigs; there is absolutely no shame in that kind of work.
