D-Folks RBL Posse As Cover Story Interview – August 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I am better known as D-Folks of Rbl Posse. and I’m a proud San Francisco native, born and raised in the Harbor Road Projects. I’m a member of RBL Posse, and for decades I’ve been part of the Bay Area music scene, creating music, building relationships, and giving back to my community. Beyond music, I’m a mental health advocate, fitness enthusiast, former counselor, and nonprofit leader. Everything I do today is rooted in using my life experiences to inspire hope, healing, and positive change.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I’ve experienced a lot of loss and adversity. I lost a close friend in 1992 who was like a brother to me. I also lost my mother and my son, and those experiences changed my life forever.

On top of that, I faced major health challenges. I underwent reconstructive knee surgery after my bone collapsed. I spent three months in a coma, followed by months in the hospital. From being in a wheelchair to using a walker, I had to rebuild my life through rehabilitation.

Growing up in the Harbor Road Projects wasn’t easy either. I was involved in gangs at a young age, but music gave me another path. Since the 1980s and early 2000s, I’ve been fortunate to be around many legendary artists who are still making an impact today. Music truly saved my life.

I’ve experienced some of life’s greatest challenges. I’ve always felt that I have a purpose here on this place called earth and have always came out on top.

What do people usually not know about you?

Most people know me as DFolks of RBL and also an artist, but many don’t know that I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Human Services and worked as a counselor for five years. Helping people has always been just as important to me as making music. I’m passionate about mental health, fitness, mentoring, and giving back to my community. I’ve also appeared on podcasts and as a guest speaker, using my story to encourage others who are facing adversity.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is authenticity. I don’t create music based on trends—I create music based on real life. Every song comes from personal experiences, struggles, victories, and lessons I’ve learned. I’ve been part of the Bay Area music scene since the late 1980s, and I’ve built relationships with many legendary artists while staying true to who I am. Beyond music, I use my platform to advocate for mental health, fitness, and community service. My goal isn’t just to entertain people—it’s to make a positive impact on their lives.  On the RBL side, our music is real We talked about the struggles, the adversity, and the realities we experienced growing up. Those stories connected with people because they were authentic. The music we created is timeless because it’s honest. We’ve been blessed to share the stage and build relationships with many legends in hip-hop since the 1980s, and we’re still here today because the message continues to resonate.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m excited about several upcoming projects. I have a live performance scheduled for August 16, and I’m continuing to grow the RBL brand. I’m also developing my own clothing line, expanding into podcasting, fitness consulting, and motivational speaking. One of my biggest goals is launching the JEM Mental Health Foundation, which will focus on providing education, support, and resources for individuals and families affected by mental health challenges.

One unforgettable moment in my career was performing in front of more than 15,000 people. Standing on that stage reminded me how powerful music can be and reinforced my commitment to using my platform to inspire others.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Be original. Don’t chase trends—create something that will stand the test of time. Learn the business side of the entertainment industry, not just the creative side. Own your work whenever possible, invest in yourself, and build a brand that can continue creating opportunities long after the spotlight fades.

Always have a plan beyond music. Be smart with your finances, stay open to new opportunities, and never let anyone define your worth or control your vision. Believe in yourself, stay consistent, and remember that your legacy is built by how you treat people and the impact you leave behind.
