Canadian singer-songwriter Laura Gagnon has built a reputation as a powerhouse vocalist, award-winning artist, and passionate advocate for authenticity in music. Drawing from a lifetime immersed in music and shaped by experiences with bullying and industry challenges, she has transformed adversity into fuel for a thriving career marked by acclaimed releases, major performances, and community leadership. In this interview, Gagnon shares how resilience, openness, and heartfelt storytelling have defined her journey, while offering insight into her upcoming projects, including new television appearances and a tour supporting her latest single, “Glow In Me.” Her message is clear: stay kind, keep pushing forward, and never underestimate the power of perseverance.

How do you introduce yourself?

Laura Gagnon is a dynamic Canadian singer-songwriter and performer based in the London, Ontario area (with ties to nearby communities like Port Stanley, Eagle, and Strathroy). She is known as a pop powerhouse with influences spanning pop, R&B, and country, celebrated for her strong, versatile vocals, emotional songwriting, and energetic live shows.

Born into a musical family, Gagnon’s love for music began early. She recalls falling asleep under her mother’s keyboard and standing on a piano bench as a child while her parents rehearsed. She pursued classical training in voice and piano through the London Conservatory of Music, building a solid foundation that supports her four-octave range and powerhouse delivery. Despite facing bullying in school, she channeled her experiences into music and developed a strong sense of self, even wearing suits to boost her confidence.

Her career includes a variety of highlights. She has shared stages for notable acts such as Bif Naked, Chuck Leavell (keyboardist for the Rolling Stones) and opened for Tyler Shaw. She performed the Canadian national anthem at Vimy Ridge commemorative events in France as part of the “Maples for Vimy” project and toured extensively across Canada and the United States, including with the McCartney Years tribute band (portraying Linda McCartney).

Gagnon is an award-winning artist, recognized as Pop Artist of the Year at the London Music Awards (multiple years), winner of the Tailgate Talent TV show (2022), and recipient of Best Music Video of the Year at the 2024 Chatham-Kent International Film Festival. Her singles, including “Darkhorse,” “Ready For The World,” “In Our Hearts,” and “Runaway,” have gained international airplay and streaming attention.335

Beyond performing, she advocates for women in music. She founded The Doll House Showcase in London, Ontario, to create supportive spaces for female artists. She has also contributed to community events, such as Pride festivals and local concert series.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I’ve had to deal with bullying all my life. From Young classroom bullying to cyberbullying. This only made me a stronger artist. Strengthened my resilience Navigating the industry has definitely been a tough one as well. I feel like I’ve been swimming in the ever changing currents of the music industry. To catch the wave that brings you to shore is hard but I’m happy to have a caught a slow growing one. 

What do people usually not know about you?

I’m passionate, warm and understanding. I’m a powerhouse of a singer, lead with my heart and glow bright. You can usually catch me out and about supporting my fellow musicians when I can. 

What sets you apart from others?

That’s a great question, I think thing that sets me apart from others is my willingness to be open and authentic day to day. I’m the same on stage as I am in the crowd. I write songs with a movie in mind or wrapped around a moment in time. 

What are your upcoming major events?

I’ll be featured in a reality TV show called “Riseup” based out of Vancouver Ontario (out sometime in 2027)

What expert advice would you like to give?

Just keep pushing through everything and everyone. A brick wall can always be moved. Remember that. Be Kind Always… At lastly, take a beat. You don’t have to respond to anything right away… but don’t take forever either.
