The Lake Sirens Cover Story – December 2024 Edition

What drives your creative passion, and how do you stay inspired?

It’s so easy to stay inspired with this incredible group of women. Every single one of The Lake Sirens is a boss! We all work creatively every day in our business and When we get to the studio and work together, it’s like a hilarious laugh riot of creativity with a side of exciting dancing.

Can you share a pivotal moment that shifted your career trajectory?

The moment that shifted, the trajectory of The Lake Sirens was when we were rushed into the studio to sing background for the incredible artist, Anders Osborne. Speaking for myself only I was extremely nervous because I’m not trained singer And have never had to sing in a studio in front of Grammy winners and extreme professionals. Putting on the headphones, knowing that they can only hear my voice and not the music was beyond frightening.

To hear that Anders Loved it and invited us to perform with him at jazz fest in front of 24,000 people opening up for the Foo Fighters was when everything changed for us! Before that we were drinking wine around and practicing karaoke songs  Which I highly suggest people do because you never know what’s going to come of it. Just look at us now!

How do you balance personal and professional life, especially in the public eye? Is it a balance?

It feels more like a roller coaster, but exactly as thrilling. For me personally, I run a very large casting company that spans all of the English-speaking time zones from Hawaii to London. I manage 40 employees, two children, and can’t wait each week With my dearest friends and play in the studio.

Challenges and Growth

What’s the most significant obstacle you’ve overcome, and what did you learn from it?

As Lake sirens, we have had some obstacles with different types of personalities that may not be cut out to work in a group. I think I’ve learned that it’s about relationships and how to relate, and that in any relationship, whether it be a partner, or family, or business or a girl band, you have to be able to compromise, Be equal, be supportive, and appreciate each person for where they are in their journey.

How do you handle criticism or negative feedback, and what’s your strategy for self-care? Was there any criticism?

I guess I wasn’t listening ha ha ha.

What skills or knowledge do you wish you had earlier in your career?

I wish I had taken vocal lessons!

Influences and Collaborations

Who are your biggest influences or role models, and why?

My biggest music influence and role model is our queen Wendy Wagner. Every day in the studio with this extremely talented person is a lesson that is so valuable. I can’t even believe it’s happening! Even though we are at lots of different  levels of talent and experience, She believes in each Of us when we don’t. She makes us push ourselves and sing parts that we never thought we could. She makes us hold notes that take every single breath and bit of air out of our lungs and usually end up in hysterical laughter, She makes us sing higher until we can’t believe the squeak we made, And the time goes by we are better. We are more experienced more comfortable. It makes us want to do more and more and practice on our own and we are so surprised at how much better each of us are doing. She is so full of experiences and stories and makes us laugh the whole time. Definitely my music role model!

What’s your dream collaboration or project, and why is it significant to you?

I have to say right now my dream collaboration is The Lake Sirens. We have grown so much and had so many exciting experiences and I know there is so much more ahead for us. It’s not only the music, which, of course is the main part of it, but it’s also creating the visuals, choosing our costumes, coming up with Concepts for photo shoots or what to wear on stage and all the rehearsals. To be able to have this creative journey with my best friends is the most magical experience ever!

How do you select projects or partnerships that align with your values?

Well, so far getting to sing with legendary rockstar, Rick Springfield, And credible Americana singer songwriter Anders Osborne definitely aligned with my values I am a giant fan of their work. I’d say we’re doing pretty good so far.

What legacy do you hope to leave in your industry, and how do you plan to achieve it?
