Shaylaray Bilandzija As Cover Story Interview – June 2024 Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hello! My name is Shaylaray Bilandzija. My pronouns are she/her. I’m 21 years old and I live in California. Some words to describe me are open-minded, empathic, creative, intelligent, adventurous, and determined. I’ve been a writer since I was 6 years old. I’m an entrepreneur, writer, model, and aspiring actress. I’m also a visionary, polymath, and humanitarian. Some of my hobbies include candle making, reading, writing, modeling, and I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie.

How was your childhood to adulthood transition?

On my 21st birthday, I decided to go skydiving so I quite literally jumped from adolescence into adulthood. Though if I’m honest, I haven’t done much adulting. As a child, I was forced to grow up too fast. I was given lots of responsibilities at a young age. Being the eldest of my siblings, I was basically like a third parent. I was also given the most chores and was held to the highest standards. It’s funny because now as an adult, I seem to avoid responsibilities. I believe part of me still clings to the carefreeness I didn’t really get to experience as a child. I am constantly trying to get in touch with my inner child.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

I’m naturally a creative genius. Not only am I intelligent, which is a strong trait on its own, but I am also imaginative. These two traits combined make a powerful mind. I genuinely believe I can do anything I put my mind to.

What are your upcoming events?

I have a poem that has been selected to be published in a book called “Unseal Your Self Love”. I submitted this poem to my writing community and was one of the chose ones to have their poem published. I’m excited for that and extremely grateful. The release date is yet to be announced. I’m also going to be part of a horror and comedy movie called “The Other Girls” about a group of final girls who survive in a world where monsters are just as common as criminals. The underlying message of the movie is that the entertainment industry lacks diverse roles when it comes to women and “The Other Girls” is here to change that. It’s inclusive towards plus sized, disabled, and unconventionally attractive women who deserve more representation in this industry.

Food and Fitness

I formed a healthy relationship with food so now my goal is to be happy and healthy, despite what the scale says. I developed this mindset where I don’t restrict myself from enjoying any foods that I like in hopes of “losing weight”. I enjoy the foods I like in moderation and stay away from fast food/ junk food as much as possible. Though, I understand that all food is fuel for my body, so I am not too hard on myself when I do decide to treat myself. I will choose to eat a majority of healthy foods because my body deserves to be healthy and feel good. As for fitness, I am starting to do lots of cardio like walking, jump roping, and jumping on a trampoline. I also enjoy swimming and I’m thinking about taking up a martial arts. We’ll see where the universe takes me.

What will be your expert advice?

I don’t consider myself an expert in anything, but I do have some advice to offer. One of my absolute favorite quotes is “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That’s why we call it ‘The Present’.” I love it because it’s so true! The only moment that truly exists is now. I feel blessed to be alive today. I’m grateful for each and every moment in my life, even the hard ones because those shaped me into the person I am today.

What hardships did you go through in life?

I’ve honestly been through so many hardships in my life. I’ve been abused sexually, emotionally, physically, and verbally. No matter how many times I get knocked down, I always get back up. Though it might sound odd, I am grateful for my hardships. My hardships have shaped me to be an understanding, empathetic, caring, resilient, strong, creative, appreciative, and adaptable person.

What do people usually not know about you?

A lot of people do not know that I won the spelling bee in junior high twice.
