How do you introduce yourself?

Since founding Perla Lichi Design in 1984, she has built an award-winning reputation for transforming residences and commercial spaces into extraordinary environments that reflect the personalities and dreams of her clients. Drawing inspiration from global travel, multicultural influences, and a passion for innovation, Perla is known for creating
interiors that are as unique as the people who live in them. For Perla, luxury is about more than aesthetics. It’s about designing spaces that reflect her clients’ personalities while bringing warmth, comfort, and lasting happiness into their homes.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Throughout my career, I have come to believe that what many people call hardships are actually opportunities for growth. Every challenge I have faced has made me a stronger person, a better business owner, and ultimately a better designer. Traveling the world and experiencing different cultures taught me to see beauty through many perspectives and helped me understand that every client has a unique story, lifestyle, and vision. Learning how people live, what inspires them, and what brings them comfort has been one of the greatest lessons of my career.

Professionally, I have navigated three major economic recessions, periods when many businesses struggled or closed their doors. Instead of giving up, I focused on reinvention. I learned to adapt, stay ahead of trends, develop new ideas, and continually evolve my brand and services to meet changing times. Those experiences taught me resilience, creativity, and the importance of never becoming complacent.

As a woman, a mother, and a business owner, balancing family and career came with its own set of challenges. Yet I never viewed those experiences as setbacks. I viewed them as opportunities to grow stronger, work smarter, and lead with determination. Challenges do not define us, they refine us. In my case, every obstacle became a stepping stone, helping me become more innovative, more compassionate, and more successful in both life and design.

What do people usually not know about you?

When she’s not designing beautiful interiors, Perla enjoys spending quality time with her family and grandchildren. She loves expressing her creativity through painting, knitting cozy throws, and creating sparkling bedazzled works of art. Fashion design, her first creative passion, continues to inspire her, and she enjoys traveling the world to discover new cultures, ideas, and artistic influences. As Perla often says, “Whether designing a luxury home or creating something by hand, creativity is simply part of who I am.”

Few people know that Perla’s original dream was to become a fashion designer. Long before she was creating luxury interiors, she was fascinated by fabrics, colors, textures and couture. A full scholarship to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale led her into interior design, where she discovered a passion that would shape her life’s work.

Fashion continues to inspire her designs today. “I’ve always believed that fashion and interiors speak the same language,” says Perla. “Both are about self-expression, beauty, and creating an experience.” Whether she’s designing a glamorous residence or admiring the latest runway trends, Perla finds inspiration in the connection between fashion and design.

What sets you apart from others?

I see myself as an artist first and a designer second. For me, luxury design isn’t about furnishings or grand details, it’s about creating spaces that tell a story, evoke emotion and reflect the people who live there. Overall, understanding people is key!

After more than 40 years in the industry, I still find inspiration everywhere through travel, architecture, art, and different cultures. Creativity has no finish line.

What expert advice would you like to give?

If I could offer one piece of advice to anyone pursuing success, whether in design, business, or life, it would be this: believe in yourself and trust your vision. The most successful people are not necessarily the most talented; they are the ones who remain focused, persistent, and committed to their purpose, even when others doubt them.

Never allow limitations, setbacks, or the opinions of others to define what is possible for you. Innovation happens when you think beyond the expected and have the courage to explore new ideas. Some of the greatest achievements come from people who were willing to challenge conventional thinking and follow a path that others could not yet see.
