Monik, known artistically as “La Canadiana,” is a Mexican-born singer who recently became a Canadian citizen, proudly embracing both cultures as part of her identity. Since beginning her career in 1997, she has been driven by a lifelong passion for music, overcoming the challenge of learning English while building an international presence. With her vibrant personality, multicultural heritage, and heartfelt performances, Monik continues to connect with audiences through memorable live events and personalized musical experiences. How do you introduce yourself?

These days, I’m proudly the new “La Canadiana.” I was born in Mexico, so I’ll always be Mexicana, but I recently became a Canadian citizen. That gives me the privilege of calling both countries home. My artistic name has been Monik since 1997, (my first time in stages and National TV) even though my real name is Monica.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

One of the biggest challenges in my journey was learning a second language—English.

What do people usually not know about you?

That I have a new nationality in Canada.

What sets you apart from others?

Starting with my curly hair and a mix of DNA that I still can’t completely trace… my latest DNA research showed roots in Europe, along with many other origins that have been lost through time.

Maybe that’s why my energy sometimes feels like fire—just like my zodiac sign. I’m grateful for the different talents I’ve been given and for the passion for music that has always guided me.

What are your upcoming major events?

One of my most memorable recent performances was at the Canada Day Festival in Britannia Village, where I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with renowned Canadian DJ Kyprios. It was an unforgettable celebration of music, community, and Canadian spirit.
