How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Keyona LaShawn, and I am a singer-songwriter and actress. Above all, I am a proud mother and a woman of faith.

My musical journey has blessed me with incredible opportunities, including sharing the stage with some of the most iconic entertainers in the music industry.

My passion has always been bigger than just singing. I want my music to tell stories, touch hearts, and remind people that love, healing, and perseverance are universal experiences.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

One of the greatest challenges I’ve faced has been navigating the ups and downs of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry while balancing life’s responsibilities.

I’ve learned that talent alone doesn’t guarantee opportunity. There have been moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and times when I’ve had to keep believing in myself even when things weren’t moving as quickly as I had hoped.

But every obstacle has taught me something valuable. I’ve learned that delays are not necessarily denials, and sometimes the most difficult seasons of your life are preparing you for your greatest blessings.

What do people usually not know about you?

Something many people may not know about me is that I won first place at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. That was such an unforgettable moment in my musical journey. Performing on a stage that has helped launch the careers of so many iconic entertainers was an incredible honor, and walking away with first place made the experience even more meaningful.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is my authenticity, versatility, and the emotional connection I bring to everything I do.

I’m not trying to be anyone else. My voice, my experiences, and my journey are uniquely mine.

I’ve had the privilege of learning from legendary artists, including my mentor Freddie Jackson, and those experiences taught me that longevity in this industry requires more than talent. It requires discipline, humility, professionalism, and a genuine love for the craft.

I also believe that being both a singer and an actress allows me to bring a different level of storytelling and emotion to my performances.

My goal isn’t simply to be seen or heard. It’s to leave people feeling something meaningful.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m excited about this next chapter of my career because there are some incredible opportunities on the horizon, both musically and in the film industry.

One opportunity I’m particularly excited about is the possibility of stepping into a leading role in an upcoming film. While everything is still in the early stages, it’s something I’m truly looking forward to. Acting has always been another passion of mine, and the opportunity to bring a character to life on that level would be an exciting milestone in my career.

Musically, I’m continuing to build on the success of my previous projects, including my EP 211 and singles Falling in Love and Cloud Nine, while exploring new creative opportunities and future performances.

I believe this next season is about growth, stepping outside my comfort zone, and embracing the doors God is opening. I can’t reveal too much just yet, but I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I look forward to sharing more when the time is right.

What expert advice would you like to give?

My advice is simple: Never give up on yourself or your dreams. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s timeline. Everyone has a different path, and success doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes the journey takes longer than expected, but that doesn’t mean you’re not exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Be willing to work hard, remain teachable, protect your integrity, and surround yourself with people who genuinely believe in your vision. Most importantly, keep your faith in God and trust the process, even when you can’t see the bigger picture.

Remember, it’s not about how quickly you reach your destination, but having the faith, determination, and perseverance to keep going until you get there.
