Habiba, affectionately known as Habzi and recognized online as WarmYellowLightt, is a Mombasa-based baker, event coordinator, and content creator whose work is rooted in warmth, creativity, and community. Inspired by the memory of her mother, whom she lost to cancer at the age of 20, she transformed her grief into a mission to bring color, light, and connection into the lives of others. Through her content and women-focused events, Habiba proudly creates representation and welcoming spaces where Black women, particularly those who may feel unseen or different, can feel understood and celebrated. With new brand partnerships and exciting experiences on the horizon, she continues to encourage others to embrace their authentic voice and confidently share it with the world.
Here is the Q&A session we had with Habiba.
Habiba As Cover Story Interview – August 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Haiii, my name is Habiba. My friends call me Habzi. And my followers know me as WarmYellowLightt.
I am a baker, event coordinator and content creator based in Mombasa, Kenya. I love to travel. I enjoy showcasing all the beauty around me. I also love to create warm and cozy spaces for women to interact and grow together.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
The toughest thing I have gone through is losing my mom to Cancer when I was 20 years old, it sucked a lot of color out of my life. Alhamdulillah I was able to grow despite it. I had to engineer new ways to bring color and warmth back into my life. It’s actually when I coined the username “WarmYellowLightt”. The quote that goes “I really just want to be warm yellow light that pours over everyone I love” – this is exactly whom my mother was and I am happy to carry on that torch for her. It’s what inspires everything I do.
What do people usually not know about you?
That I am very introverted. My online persona is very bubbly and friendly. It doesn’t always translate that way in person. My followers come up to me all the time and I don’t always know how to respond. Regardless I am always very happy to meet my Sunshines out in the wild. (That’s what I call them, “Sunshine”)
What sets you apart from others?
The fact that I create the content that I want to see. I am a black Kenyan that’s muslim. I grew up in a town where I was mostly a minority. So I am so happy to be able to show up for little girls like me who may not feel so comfortable in their skin or welcome in their social groups. To be seen is definitely to be loved. And I strongly feel black women need black women around them, to be seen and loved by them, to be understood by them.
What are your upcoming major events ?
I have a couple of brand partnerships lined up for the rest of the year. Really excited to be doing what I love and getting paid to do it!
I also run ‘Curated Events by Habzi’ for women in Mombasa and this final quarter we shall be ousside viciously the most exciting event coming up is a Wasini day trip that’s jam packed with activities, a full day in the sun and water. See you there Sunshine!
What expert advice would you like to give?
Honestly? Just be yourself. There is no better thing to be.
I think the best thing you can do for yourself is find your voice and then cultivate the courage to share it and stand by it. Everything else becomes easy.
