Dr. Emelda Uzoagbado As Cover Story Interview – September 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Dr. Emelda Uzoagbado, PhD, MNM, MPH. I am a Naturopathy Doctor, public health professional, health educator, clinical research professional, entrepreneur, and proud U.S. Army veteran. My journey has been centered around learning, serving, and helping people. My background includes Healthcare Administration and Management, Holistic Health, Public Health, and Natural Medicine. I also hold a PhD in Natural Medicine and I am currently continuing my education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Today, one of my greatest passions is helping people become more aware of their health and understand the importance of prevention, nutrition, lifestyle, mental wellness, and making informed health decisions. I enjoy serving people and communities, and I hope to continue using my knowledge and experiences to make a meaningful difference.

Childhood to Adulthood Transition?

My journey from childhood to adulthood has shaped so much of the person I am today. My parents brought me to the United States, which opened a completely new chapter in my life. Coming to America meant adjusting to a new environment, learning new things, and eventually finding my own path. One of the biggest decisions I made was joining the U.S. Army National Guard. My military experience taught me discipline, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and resilience. Most importantly, it taught me the true meaning of service. Today, I am proud to be a U.S. Army veteran. Although my military service is one chapter of my story, the lessons I learned during that time continue to influence how I approach my career, education, businesses, and life in general.

What hardships have you gone through in your journey?

Like everyone else, I have experienced difficult seasons in my life. There have been times when things did not happen the way I expected. I have had to make difficult decisions, adjust to unexpected changes, start over, and keep moving forward even when I did not know exactly what the next chapter would look like. Those experiences taught me resilience. I learned that one difficult season does not have to determine the rest of your story. My faith has also played an important role in helping me through challenging moments. I have learned to pray, remain focused, take whatever lesson I can from an experience, and continue moving forward. I also believe hardship can teach us compassion. Sometimes going through your own challenges helps you understand another person’s struggles without judging them.

What Makes You Unique?

I believe what makes me unique is my ability to connect with people from different walks of life and genuinely care about their well being. I have always had a heart for serving people. Whether I am working professionally, helping someone in my community, or simply talking with someone who needs encouragement, I try to make that person feel heard, respected, and valued. I am also not afraid to start again or change direction when necessary. Life has taught me how to adjust, rebuild, and continue moving forward when things do not happen exactly as planned. I am ambitious, but I don’t measure success only by what I accomplish for myself. I also think about the people I can encourage, educate, support, and positively impact. My compassion, determination, resilience, and love for serving people are a big part of what makes me who I am.

What Do People Usually Not Know About You?

People often see my professional side, but there is also a very simple and private side of me. I genuinely enjoy helping people, even when nobody knows about it. I don’t believe every good thing we do needs to be announced or posted publicly. Sometimes the most meaningful things we can do for someone happen quietly. I also enjoy learning and discovering new things. I am naturally curious, and when something interests me, I want to understand it better. Outside of my professional life, I appreciate simple things. I enjoy genuine conversations, kindness, laughter, peace, and being around people with positive intentions.

What Sets You Apart From the Rest?

I don’t really like comparing myself with other people because I believe everyone has their own story. What I try to do is remain true to myself while continuing to grow. My life has taken me through many different environments, including military service, healthcare, public health, clinical research, natural wellness, behavioral health, business, and community service. Each experience has allowed me to meet different people and understand life from a different perspective. I can be very determined when I set my mind on something, but I also try to lead with compassion. I listen, observe, and try to understand people before making conclusions about them. Most importantly, I am willing to keep learning. I don’t believe reaching a certain level means there is nothing else to learn. There is always room to grow.

What are your upcoming projects?

This is an exciting period of my life because I am working on projects that are very meaningful to me. One of the major projects I am currently working toward is organizing a healthcare event in Rwanda in 2027. I am especially excited about this because it brings together several things that are important to me, including health education, community wellness, prevention, and service. My vision is to bring people together around health awareness and education while creating an opportunity to positively impact the community. I am also continuing my work in natural wellness, public health education, clinical research, entrepreneurship, and community outreach. Another area I am interested in is public service. At the appropriate time, I intend to pursue an elected seat. I see public service as another opportunity to listen to people, understand community needs, and contribute in a meaningful way. I am excited about what is ahead and look forward to continuing to serve, grow, and create opportunities that can positively impact people’s lives.

Food Preferences and Physical Attributes?

I enjoy good food, especially fresh and flavorful meals. I also appreciate traditional foods because food can carry memories of family, culture, celebration, and where we come from. Because of my background in natural wellness, I pay attention to nutrition and how our everyday food choices can support overall health. At the same time, I believe in balance. Healthy living should not mean being afraid to enjoy food. When it comes to physical appearance, I enjoy looking nice and presenting myself professionally. However, I don’t believe physical appearance is the most important thing about a person. To me, confidence, character, kindness, and the way you treat people will always speak louder than appearance.

Your Love Life and Family?

This is one part of my life that I prefer to keep private. My family is very important to me, but I don’t like discussing the details of my family or love life publicly. I am comfortable sharing my professional journey, education, military experience, community work, and some of the lessons life has taught me. However, I believe it is healthy to have boundaries and to keep certain parts of life personal. Not everything meaningful has to be shared publicly. I respect my family’s privacy, and I also value my own. That is one boundary I choose to maintain.

What expert advice would you like to give?

One thing I always encourage people to do is become more involved in their own health. Learn about your body. Pay attention to what you eat, how you sleep, how active you are, how you manage stress, and how you are doing mentally and emotionally. Don’t wait until something is seriously wrong before you begin paying attention to yourself. I also believe in balance when it comes to natural health. Natural approaches should not be used as a reason to ignore necessary medical care. People should work with qualified healthcare professionals when needed while also learning about evidence informed nutrition, lifestyle, prevention, and wellness practices. Outside of health, one of the greatest lessons life has taught me is not to compare my journey with someone else’s. My parents brought me to the United States. I joined the military and became a veteran. I continued my education, worked in healthcare, public health and clinical research, entered natural wellness and entrepreneurship, and continued discovering new ways to serve people. My journey has not been one straight road, and I have learned to appreciate that. I believe you can always learn something new. You can start again. You can change direction. You can continue growing no matter where you are in life. Most importantly, I believe we should use the opportunities we have to help others. At the end of the day, I don’t want to be remembered only for degrees, titles, or accomplishments. I want to be remembered for how I treated people, how I served, and the lives I was able to positively impact along the way.
