Delante Sealey Cover Story Interview – February 2025 Edition

Introduction

I am Delante Sealey, an award-winning and nominated writer and director originally from the Washington, D.C. (DMV) area. I am also a proud graduate of Full Sail University. Over the past few years, I have worked tirelessly to produce and direct with one goal in mind: to become one of the greatest directors in the world.

Transition from Childhood to Adulthood

My transition from childhood to adulthood had its ups and downs, like anyone else’s life journey. As a child, I enjoyed watching a variety of movies with my mom, which became my first introduction to film. I also had a vivid imagination and loved pretending to be superheroes or characters from TV shows while playing with other kids.

My first love was soccer, a sport I played until high school. It was then that I discovered my passion for acting. In high school, I started auditioning for different roles in TV and film. Those auditions taught me the importance of perseverance. Even when I didn’t get a part, I learned to keep my head up and keep moving forward. Over time, I began to book more roles, and film became a permanent fixture in my life.
After graduating high school, I left my hometown of Washington, D.C., to attend Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. In college, I learned to manage my money, balance my time, and hone my skills in directing, producing, writing, and editing. The transition from childhood to adulthood was filled with twists and turns, but each experience helped shape me into the person I am today.

Hardships I Have Faced and How I Overcame Them

One of the hardest challenges I faced was leaving my hometown to move to Orlando, Florida, for Full Sail University. The most difficult part was being away from my family and friends and adjusting to life without the support I was used to.

I overcame this by focusing on my schoolwork and staying determined to make my parents proud. My goal was to be the first in my family to graduate—not only to fulfill my dreams but also to inspire my nieces and nephews. Achieving that goal gave me a confidence and sense of accomplishment that no one can take away.

Hidden Talents: Something People Don’t Know About Me

Something people might not know about me is that I’m a big fan of anime. I’ve loved anime since I was a kid, and my passion for it has only grown over the years. Some of my favorite shows include Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, and Boruto. What I enjoy most about anime is how the characters overcome not just external struggles but also internal conflicts.

Unique Selling Proposition

What sets me apart from the competition is the type of movies I want to create and the stories I aim to tell. Some Black films tend to overuse the same narratives and plots. My films, however, take a different approach by blending diverse casts with unique genres for an exciting experience.

I hope that when people watch my films, they leave still discussing the story on the way home or over dinner. The best films, in my opinion, are the ones people talk about for years to come.

Upcoming Events

We are currently in post-production for our new thriller, In the Presence of Beast. We plan to release it by the end of the year. Before its wide release on various platforms, we’ll showcase the film at several festivals through the film festival circuit.

Words of Wisdom

One of my favorite quotes is: “The difference between a wish and a dream is that a wish is something you hope for, and a dream is something you work for.”

I live by this quote because hoping for something without action or passion will not lead you to your destiny. Achieving your dreams takes hard work, and along the way, you may face rejection or criticism from friends, family, or peers. Regardless of what others say or do, never give up on your dream. Always push forward to make it a reality. Only you can fulfill the dream that God has placed in your heart and life.
