Ash Rosario As Cover Story Interview – April 2026 Magazine Edtition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Ash Rosario, I’m a Dominican & Haitian artist raised in New York City.  I create expressionist art with a mix of abstract that explores mental health and emotional depth. Through art, I aim to help others feel seen, encouraged, feel vulnerable and bring healing. I also believe in breaking stigma and showing that asking for help is strength; not weakness, in a world that often silences inner struggles. Creativity has always been present my whole life since I was a kid but I then started shifting my focus onto basketball. My journey into art wasn’t planned. But when i turned 18, while navigating depression, I found myself searching for an outlet that could carry what I was feeling. Painting became that space for me. It allowed me to communicate without expressing & explaining anything, to release emotion without needing to translate it into language. What I couldn’t say, I was able to create. Art became my journal, it became my voice.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

As an artist, I often face a lot of overwhelming emotions & overthinking thoughts. Sometimes when I face these obstacles & hardships artist block tends to overtake my process of creating. I go months without being able to create anything . Since painting is my outlet & a way for me to express my experiences & thoughts, when I’m not able to create anything i start to feel heavy & uncomfortable.

What do people usually not know about you?

That I’m a very emotional & vulnerable person. I’m an open book if I’m being studied. I think we lost the art of feeling & allowing ourselves to feel in today’s world. People are often running away from their emotions, detaching themselves from everything immediately, & allowing themselves to be nonchalant; but i always crave emotional depth even if it gets me hurt at the end. I believe being open is a strength despite your past experiences & allowing yourself to feel by letting every wall down is pure bravery.

What sets you apart from others?

I put God first in everything I do. I follow his word even when it doesn’t make sense to me in the moment or even when i don’t see results from it right away, i still follow his demands. I also often find the light of things. I don’t believe in staying stagnant for a long period of time. I tend to push through, understanding that the purpose behind my work is greater than the doubt that sometimes comes with it. I never avoid discomfort, I chase it until i acknowledge it as part of life.

What are your upcoming major events ?

I have a lot of upcoming projects & exhibitions this year. I plan on putting me/my art out there as much as possible & getting comfortable with uncomfortable. My website will also be back active again soon as i continue along with my journey to help others feel seen, understood, & supported. New artwork & poetry videos are on the process of being released, so as my own personal coloring book.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Don’t allow society, social media & other people affect your decisions, goals, & ambitions. Everyone’s path is different from yours. If you have this desire to chase your dreams or anything that fires you up, go for it without thinking about the what if’s & the failures. If it’s meant for you, It will happen, regardless of how much you run away from it. You’ll end up getting rejected a couple of times in the beginning, & when you do NOBODY cares, just continue to try again & again until you make it. Don’t allow your failures & unstableness to discourage you from doing the one thing you love. Don’t spend your youth being in environments that only drains you, do what makes YOU happy, even when it doesn’t make sense sometimes, just do it. Chase it. Feel it; Because if you don’t, you’ll end up regretting & wishing you actually did when you were younger. Life moves fast, so take advantage of your passion.
