Armesha Shakura As Cover Story Interview – May 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
My name is Armesha Shakura I go by pronouns she/Her. I’m from Detroit Michigan born and raised. I’m very passionate about acting and have been ever since I was a little girl. I have both theater and on stage training along with a little bit of Voice Over work. I’m currently and actively working on my craft through workshops, acting classes and private acting lessons. I’m dedicated to the art and education of acting as I work my way up into the industry and continue my journey for my break through role.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I’ve gone through so many hardships in my young years of life. I’ve struggled with growing up in poverty. I was born in raised in Detroit Michigan and come from a very dis functional and toxic environment and background. I cut ties with “family” because it was just a lot to deal with. I’ve learned that you can’t make people change no matter how much you love them and just because you’re related to someone doesn’t mean they have the right to treat you badly over and over again. It’s been tough having this passion and no one close to support me when it’s needed and where it should be from. I would be lying if i said that the people who should have been here and supporting my acting journey but are not dosen’t affect me because it does. It’s a daily reminder that I struggle with but i manage. I have gone through other things that would probably be unbelievable to the average person if I was to say because of how terrible it sounds and how o carry myself as an individual from the city of Detroit. This is one other the most highlights of my hardships because I truly believe that nothing is more important and impactful than a family that loves you, support you and advocates for you. That’s just something I definitely wish i had on the come up in the acting industry.
What do people usually not know about you?
At most it depends. I a lot of people don’t know where I’m from. I always get asked that question from both on and off social media. It’s kind of funny because the people in my own city are so curious about where I’m from and I tell them like I’m from here and they are like “really”? I’m not sure if it’s the way I talk, dress or carry myself but it’s definitely something about me that sets me apart. Not to brag.
What sets you apart from others?
I think it’s the way I carry myself. In my mind I’m already mentally somewhere in California or anywhere outside of Michigan doing what I enjoy doing as an actor or public figure. I just want better for myself because the struggles I’ve been through gave me strength to never go through it again. I want more than just being a city girl from a no bleep family and nothing more. It’s my personality and the way I talk and it shows.
What are your upcoming major events?
I have an upcoming short horror film that I just wrapped on 4/24th. I had a small budget a tripod and a self written script. I’m excited for this because it’s one of my first projects I started submitting to film festivals (Which I’m in hopes it does well) I’m a huge horror fan and I really wanted to not only tell a story but to perform it as well. There is no spoilers at this time but as soon as the film festivals have reviewed my film I’m definitely posting teasers and release date on all my socials.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Honestly my best advice is to not give advice. I’m in no position to give anyone advice but if I could give my opinion on it I’d say to just try to make the right decisions and learn from the wrong ones.
