Dominique Leshay Alston As Cover Story Interview – July 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Dominique Leshay Alston. I am an entrepreneur, children’s author, actress, and creative dedicated to building meaningful experiences that inspire others. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across film, television, print, venture capital, startup operations, executive leadership, education, and nonprofit initiatives, while also founding businesses centered on mindfulness, creativity, and personal growth.

At my core, I believe success is measured not only by professional accomplishments but by the positive impact we leave on others. Whether I’m mentoring, writing, speaking, or creating, my mission is to encourage people to embrace resilience, lead with authenticity, and build lives that align with their purpose.

People are far more capable than they realize. My life’s work has become helping others discover what is possible when resilience and discipline meets purpose. Whether through business, writing, leadership, or service, I’m interested in building things that outlive me and leave people better than I found them.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Like many people, my journey hasn’t been linear. I’ve experienced seasons of profound loss, financial hardship, uncertainty, and rebuilding. Losing my grandfather, brother, and father were some of the most transformative experiences of my life. It challenged my perspective and deepened my appreciation for the fragility of time.

Professionally, I’ve had to reinvent myself more than once. I’ve gone from executive leadership roles to taking humble roles simply to survive while continuing to pursue my larger vision. Those experiences taught me that there is dignity in honest work and that no season defines your future.

Rather than allowing adversity to make me bitter, I’ve chosen to let it make me wiser, more compassionate, and more determined to create opportunities for myself and others.

What do people usually not know about you?

People often assume that because I’m ambitious and composed, everything has always come easily. In reality, I’m naturally introspective and spend a great deal of time studying psychology, philosophy, spirituality, leadership, and human behavior.

Another thing many people don’t know is that I genuinely love the outdoors. Backpacking through the mountains, camping under the stars, and disconnecting from technology are some of the places where I feel most connected to myself and to God.

The balance between high-level business strategy and quiet moments in nature is something that defines me.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is my ability to combine strategy with empathy.

I’ve worked in executive leadership, startup operations, education, creative entrepreneurship, and community service, and each experience has taught me how to connect people rather than simply manage projects.

I don’t pursue success solely for recognition—I pursue it because I believe meaningful work should improve the lives of others. Whether I’m leading a team, writing a children’s book, mentoring someone, or building a business, I approach every opportunity with integrity, curiosity, and a genuine desire to leave things better than I found them.

What are your upcoming major events?

This year is focused on growth and expansion.

After just walking the red carpet at the BET Awards 2026, I’m continuing to develop my entrepreneurial ventures while exploring new opportunities in executive leadership and strategic operations. I’m also expanding my creative projects, including writing, digital content, and initiatives that promote education, wellness, and empowerment.

In addition, I’m excited to collaborate with organizations and brands whose values align with creating meaningful social impact. I believe the next chapter of my career will be my most impactful yet.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Success is rarely built through one defining moment; it is built through thousands of quiet decisions that no one else sees.

Stay curious. Keep learning. Don’t allow temporary circumstances to become permanent identities. Your current situation is simply a chapter, not the entire story.

Most importantly, invest in your character as much as your career. Skills may open doors, but integrity is what keeps them open.
