Yaya Minté As Cover Story Interview – June 2026 Magazine Edition
Yaya Minté
Born in Pikine, Senegal, and now based in France, Yaya Minté has built an inspiring career as a singer, songwriter, performer, and founder of Sonotaro Prod, using music as a bridge for connection, healing, and shared humanity. Despite leaving his homeland with limited resources and enduring years of street performances, financial struggles, and uncertainty, he transformed those challenges into a foundation of resilience and success. Through his project Nio Far—meaning “We Are Together” in Wolof—Minté combines soulful music, wellness, and personal growth to bring people closer together. Having independently sold more than 100,000 albums and performed thousands of concerts, he continues to champion authenticity while promoting his new album SO and expanding his vision through music, retreats, and community-focused initiatives.
How do you introduce yourself?
My name is Yaya Minté. I am a singer, songwriter, performer, and founder of Sonotaro Prod. I was born in Pikine, Senegal, and I now live in France. Music has always been more than a career for me; it is a way to connect people, tell stories, and remind us of our shared humanity. Through my project Nio Far, which means “We Are Together” in Wolof, I try to create moments of connection, hope, and healing through music.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Like many artists, my journey has not been easy. I left Senegal with dreams but very few resources. I spent years performing in the streets, facing uncertainty, rejection, and financial challenges. There were times when giving up would have been easier. But every obstacle taught me resilience. Today, I am grateful for those experiences because they shaped the person and artist I have become.
What do people usually not know about you?
Many people know me as a singer, but fewer know how deeply interested I am in personal growth, well-being, spirituality, and human connection. I organize wellness retreats, practice yoga, and believe that music can be a powerful tool for transformation and healing.
What sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart is authenticity. I built my career independently, without a major label, selling more than 100,000 albums and performing thousands of concerts by staying true to myself. My music is influenced by soul, jazz, African rhythms, and gospel, but above all, it is guided by sincerity and a desire to bring people together.
What are your upcoming major events?
I recently released my new album, SO, and I am currently promoting it through concerts and media appearances. One of my major upcoming events is my concert at Café de la Danse in Paris. I am also developing new music, wellness retreats, and several artistic collaborations that connect music, personal development, and community.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Dream big, but be willing to work patiently. Success rarely happens overnight. Stay consistent, stay authentic, and don’t let fear decide your future. Your uniqueness is your greatest strength. As I often say: no dream is ever too big.
