Makenzie & Michael Mcdonald As Cover Story Interview – May 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
We’re Makenzie and Michael McDonald, newlyweds based in Brentwood, Los Angeles building a life rooted in ambition, family, creativity, and LOVE. Michael comes from the Marina district in San Francisco, and I grew up in Boise, Idaho before we both built our careers in Los Angeles. Together, we balance our high-pressure work environments with a love for hosting, travel, music, and creating meaningful experiences for the people around us. We just got married May 1st in Agoura Hills in a romantic Italian-inspired villa that felt very “us” — warm, family-centered, and full of sass.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Like most people, a lot of our growth came through pressure, uncertainty in an intimidating place like LA and learning how to navigate life while still showing up for the ones we love. One thing we’ve learned is that success looks very different from the outside than it feels internally. There’s a lot of discipline, sacrifice, resilience, and trust required behind the scenes. Through all of it, we’ve learned the importance of having someone who makes you feel grounded and safe no matter what’s happening around you.
What do people usually not know about you?
People usually don’t realize how sentimental we both are. Behind everything, we’re really just two people who love family, traditions, music, dancing, and making everyday moments fun and enjoyable. We romanticize life like no other, because we only get one. Our relationship has been a whole lot of laughing, being weird together, and turning ordinary nights at home into our favorite memories.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is probably how silly we are together. We’ve never felt the need to be anyone other than ourselves, and I think people feel that around us. We balance each other really naturally — Michael brings a sweet, protective energy, and I bring a fun and generous energy. We make people feel comfortable, welcomed, and included, while still always having fun together. At the end of the day, we’re best friends first, and I think that’s the foundation of everything.
What are your upcoming major events?
Our biggest event ever was our wedding in Agoura Hills at Villa di Rocca on May 1st. Late May, we’ll be honeymooning along the Amalfi Coast and Capri. Professionally, we’re both continuing to grow in our careers and creative side-projects. I found my passion for creativity through my wedding era and that’s reinvigorated my love for sewing, fashion and entertaining.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Don’t lose yourself trying to impress people – just be yourself. The older we get, the more we realize that authenticity, consistency, and emotional intelligence matter more than perfection. You being yourself is perfection. Success without peace or meaningful relationships eventually feels empty. Learn how to adapt. Technology and culture are changing quickly, and the people who stay curious and willing to evolve will always have an advantage. Oh, and my current motto is AI won’t replace people – it will eventually bring us together again. We need human interaction more than we realize.
