Michelle Vanessa As Cover Story Interview – June 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Michelle Vanessa — born and raised in vibrant Miami, Florida! I come from a richly diverse background, with German, African-American, and Nicaraguan roots. My parents instilled in me the importance of embracing and celebrating different cultures & cuisine, which has shaped the way I move through the world!

I’m a passionate foodie and have been working in the hospitality industry since my teenage years. I cover all things lifestyle both on and off screen — from food and travel to partnering with some of the most respected brands in the industry. I regularly review restaurants and hotels, bringing honest and engaging insights to my audience, magazines, and newspapers!

My love for food and wine has led me to exciting opportunities: appearing on multiple TV shows, hosting events, dabbling into acting, and built a career as a professional food and travel critic or as my family calls it, “eating for a living” haha!

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I’ve dealt with challenges that taught me patience and perseverance, especially when it comes to navigating unpredictable environments, whether personal or professional. I’ve learned how to adapt, stay grounded, and keep moving forward with grace. I try to use every tough moment as a lesson

What do people usually not know about you?

What most people don’t know about me is that while I critique food for a living, I actually know my way around the kitchen very well. Growing up Black, German, and Nicaraguan, I was lucky enough to be exposed to a wide mix of flavors, techniques, and traditions — so I naturally picked up how to cook everything from soul food to schnitzel to gallo pinto.  My kitchen is like a global passport! I don’t just taste food — I study it, I remix it, and I serve it up with love (and a little flair). Oh, and I’m also the unofficial comedian in my friend group — if I’m not cooking or eating, I’m probably making everyone laugh while doing both.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is that I’m deeply well-rounded , I lead with kindness, stay rooted in gratitude, and bring a sense of humor into almost everything I do. I’ve learned a lot from life’s twists and turns, and I use those lessons to connect with people on a real level. I’m not someone who believes in keeping the spotlight to myself …when I win, everyone around me wins too. If I get an opportunity, I do my best to make sure others get a seat at the table. Whether I’m working, creating, cooking, or just being a friend, I show up with intention, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart.

What are your upcoming major events ?

This summer’s looking like a fun (and packed) one! I’ve got a mix of personal trips and work travel coming up , a little bit of play and a whole lot of food. I’ll be reviewing some cool properties, hitting a few food festivals, and checking out some new restaurants that are making a buzz around town . Basically, I’ll be eating my way through summer and sharing it all along the way!

What expert advice would you like to give?

If I had to give expert advice, especially in the world of hospitality, food, and travel, it would be this: experience everything with intention. Don’t just chase trends or pretty aesthetics ,

learn the story behind the plate, the culture behind the space, and the people behind the service. Whether you’re dining out, traveling, or working in the industry, lead with respect and curiosity. Build real relationships, support small and local businesses, and always give credit where it’s due. And most importantly — bring others with you. Opportunities mean more when they’re shared.
