Serena Lehman As Cover Story Interview – February 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hi! I’m Serena, and I’m an American actor based in London. I usually introduce myself as an actor and creator interested in stories that explore identity, vulnerability, and the challenges and beauty of our shared humanity. As much as I can, I enjoy working on projects where art and emotional truth meet – whether that’s on stage, screen, or through poetry. I’m drawn to projects that ask hard questions and make people feel less alone. All that being said, I also enjoy art that makes us laugh – stories are such a powerful force; for communication, healing, and joy.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Like most people, my life hasn’t been linear! I’ve had periods of time where I’ve had to confront trauma and work on healing – both personally and creatively. My acting thesis for my Masters actually centered around trauma and recovery, and writing the poetry involved for that piece was one of the most confronting and cathartic processes I’ve gone through. I think my experiences have pushed me to be more emotionally honest in my relationships and in the art I enjoy creating and being a part of.

What do people usually not know about you?

I don’t plan very far ahead, ever. I rather spontaneously decided to move to London! When Covid started I was working in NYC, and ended up moving back to Boston, where I’m from. With the world shut down and feeling a bit unsure about what to do with myself, I thought, why not apply to conservatories in London, and now 4 or so years later, here I am. I think that’s the best way to live though – it’s a bit more fun! I want to travel as much as I can. Exploring cultures, learning from people who are “different” from me; I think it’s the best thing you can do as an actor.

What sets you apart from others?

I’m really interested in why people are the way they are – what shaped them, what they’re healing from, what they’re afraid to say out loud. That shows up in my acting, my writing, and how I show up for friends and family. I’d always prefer to go deep, rather than stay on the surface of conversations.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m focused on expanding my acting work in film right now. I’ve been lucky to do a lot of theater in my life – which I love, but I’d like to explore more screen work! There’s a few indie films I shot this January and last year which will likely be premiering at some point this Spring or Summer. I’m also hoping to get back to developing my one woman show that I wrote for my thesis project.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Expert advice! I don’t see myself as an expert – I think I’m still growing as an artist and hope I always continue to do that. But I suppose I would say that we live in a culture which is obsessed with timelines and visible success, but the most meaningful growth usually happens quietly and slowly. The more honest you’re willing to be with yourself, the more authentic your work and relationships become. I spend a lot of time in hippie / spiritual communities, which has helped me ground myself in an industry that can be quite unstable and stressful, and has given me something to dive into when I’m not working on an artistic project – I recommend finding something like that for yourself if you’re in the arts!
