Sean Miguel Perez As Cover Story – October 2023 Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hi everyone, my name is Sean Miguel Perez. I’m an actor, singer & dancer based in Sydney, Australia that is represented in both the U.S. and in Australia.

Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?

I found independence early in childhood having being responsible for my younger sister while my parents were at work. But my childhood was full of singing (through karaoke at family parties), dancing (by learning music video choreography after recording them on VHS tapes) and my love for acting came through the form of cartoons and sitcoms. They were my staple that followed me into adulthood.

Sitcoms allowed me to escape any negative moments I went through and allowed me to laugh and develop my wicked sense of humor while cartoons allowed me to escape into fantasy and let my inner child live and be excited.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Being a performer who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community was a struggle because I entered the industry where diversity wasn’t a thing at the time. I’d be lucky to get a few auditions every 6 months compared to now. We can still do better now; at least we are doing better.

I love seeing diversity on our screens such a neurodiversity, linguistic diversity, ethnic and sexual diversity and humans from most walks of life being represented. It truely makes a difference.

Growing up, not seeing anyone that looked like me on Western TV really made me question if a career in the performing arts is possible and I learnt early on in my career that it only takes one person fighting for you to make a difference because someone did that for me. So if you are privileged enough to advocate and bring someone up to your level or bring someone up as you go up the ladder, do it. You will change someone’s life for the better and make this industry a better place.

What do people usually not know about you?

How many other things I do besides performing. People are always surprised at how many projects I’m working on at the same time whether it’s industry related or a personal project. I just love learning and bringing that knowledge to help and educate others to bring them forward in their lives.

While I love entertaining and helping people, people are also shocked how much alone time I enjoy too. Being alone allows me to recharge my batteries and be grounded. I am my own best friend.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

I am me. Simply.  No one can do you better than you. My views and perspectives are my own. My lived experienced have shaped who I am. What I’ve seen and heard has allowed me to see the world through a particular lens. And so my work reflects that.

My work reflects a human who is an introverted extrovert, who allows himself to play with the dark energy but live in the light, appreciates nature and all forms of art, loves humans but needs alone time, is neurotic and sassy but at times can be very grounded – especially in emergency situations. I’m a walking contradiction (just check my astrology and numerology charts!).

What are your upcoming major events?

I’ve just wrapped on a Rom Com Feature Film called “He Loves Me Not” and it was so much fun. And to contrast that, I had a large guest star on the newly announced AMC Series “Nautilus”. Both of which I’m really excited to see! And finally I’m in post production on my own self produced short film called “Maghintay (Wait)” which is set to hit the International Festival Circuit in 2024.

What expert advice would you like to give?

For the actors who are reading this, know that you are in Show Business. Meaning that there is a Business to our craft. And in order to show off our show, we need to get through the business. You gotta learn this business to get through this business.
