Nicholè McGill-Higgins As Cover Story – August 2023 Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Hi I’m Nicole McGill-Higgins I work within the realm of human connection to uplift and inspire individuals to fully embrace themselves in all facets of their lives. As a coach specialising in leadership and belonging, I collaborate with senior leaders and those in leadership roles who aspire to lead with courage and a deep comprehension of their authentic selves. This includes the various areas of their lives. After all, they say ‘the way you do one thing, is the way you do everything’
Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?
I’ve adored music since a very young age and would dance to just about anything! Being the youngest of four (with 2 brothers and 1 sister), I literally was “unknown” to them turned five, which, as you can imagine, led to some interesting developments later in life. I was enrolled in a private boarding school at the age of 13 in Jamaica, where my mother used to tell me stories of African history and that’s when hen I really started to embrace the culture of my parents and my Jamaican heritage. I moved back to the United Kingdom after finishing high school, and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management and my Master Degree in Marketing and while I’ve never used either degree in “their intended form” I’ve used everything I learned creatively as a self-employed Businesswoman.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I found myself as a single mother, giving birth to my first son at the age of 19, and my second son when I was 21. Nurturing two boys, who were growing into young black men in the UK, while being a single mother, honestly filled me with fear. It was undoubtedly challenging and came with immense responsibility. Looking back, it’s been an absolute privilege to raise my wonderful boys. They have both developed into remarkable individuals and exceptional fathers, which brings me a deep sense of pride.
What do people usually not know about you?
I experienced bullying during my childhood, which greatly contributed to my innate shyness. I identify as an introvert. Over time, I had to acquire the skill of speaking up and emerging from the shadows, although it’s still a work in progress. This irony isn’t lost on me, considering the nature of the work I’m engaged in.
What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?
I’m unsure if this sets me apart, but it likely does make me stand out (potentially). I am who I am, without reservations. I won’t simply follow the crowd because it’s heading in a particular direction. My actions are guided by my own integrity and by doing what’s right for myself. Being a substantial empath, I’m currently navigating my own journey towards courage and vulnerability. These qualities take the forefront in my stage appearances, workshops, facilitation, and coaching. I’m dedicated to championing individuals, providing them a secure space to grow and encouraging them to embrace their authenticity without apology. One of my core mantras is, ‘Your vibe attracts your tribe’.

What expert advice would you like to give?
The most valuable investment you will ever make is dedicating time to self-reflect and truly understanding yourself – it starts with you. Uncover your essence, your motivations, and the forces driving your life. Put in the effort to evolve and attain a complete sense of self-ownership. Also, keep in mind the importance of practicing gratitude each day and establishing firm boundaries. Remember that ‘NO’ is a complete sentence. Thrive in your own path. Once you undertake the inner journey and embrace your authentic self without reservation, that’s when the magic begins. Embrace the journey and relish every step.
