How do you introduce yourself?
Im Lauren, I go by LSD. A Philadelphia-based rapper, producer, comedian, actress, & songwriter. I began writing music at 11 & became a recognized underground rap artist in Philly during the rap DVD era. In 2020, I expanded into comedy, which quickly evolved into a major part of my career. That leap led me to stand-up building a strong fanbase on social media. Around the same time, I also became an internet viral skit sensation, gaining widespread attention for my comedic content across social media platforms.
Since then, I’ve been featured in interviews on FOX 29 News, podcasts, & radio stations, and my new single, “Fuck This Jawn Up,” is currently receiving radio play. Beyond music & comedy, l’ve landed several small television roles and am currently filming a new TV project, including a small role in Martin Lawrence’s upcoming project “The Varnell Hill Show” which will be airing this year.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
My journey has never been easy. Growing up in Philadelphia is ruff. I was pulled into the street life & made choices I’m not proud of, eventually experiencing incarceration. It got to a point I felt I was wasting my talent, so I made the decision to change my life. I’ve battled drug addiction after being prescribed pain medication. Doctors say they’re helping you next thing you know you’re hooked. I survived a coma, & just months ago underwent surgery to remove a breast tumor. As a teenager, I survived sexual assault. I’ve also faced unimaginable loss. Losing a friend at age seven, another was killed in middle school, my father, who had cancer & struggled with schizophrenia, so I was robbed of a relationship with my dad due to his mental health. He was found dead in his home, & several friends to gun violence in Philly. I’ve been through more than most could imagine, but through every setback, loss, & struggle, I kept going. I refused to let my past define me & ultimately, I came out on top.
What do people usually not know about you?
Despite my growing popularity and rising to fame, I’m actually an introvert & don’t care for people lol. I’ma “popular loner.” I enjoy my own company. Some people need people or need to be in a relationship to feel they have value I don’t. One of my favorite colors is white, which some people find unusual, but I’ve always loved it, it’s so pure. Growing up, I use to draw and create art, long before music became my main creative outlet. I absolutely love strip clubs! And one fun fact about me? Shrimp is my favorite food. I could literally survive off just shrimp lol!
What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is that I refuse to put myself in a box. I’m naturally multitalented & equally great with all of my talents. I’m a rapper, producer, songwriter, comedian, stand-up and sketch performer, and I even sing from time to time. My talent allows me to express myself in many different ways, and I bring that versatility into everything I create. When it comes to music, I like experimenting, creating something different and fresh, and keeping people guessing about what l’ll do next. I want to be unpredictable. But beyond talent, what truly sets me apart is my will to keep going. No matter what I’ve faced or how many times life has tried to knock me down, I continue to create, evolve, & push forward. I’m not afraid to reinvent myself.
What are your upcoming major events?
I have several exciting projects on the horizon. I’m currently preparing to launch my comedy tour, which was temporarily pushed back following surgery. I also have a small role in an upcoming TV show created by Martin Lawrence. My single “Fuck This Jawn Up,” which I both rap on and produced, will be featured in a movie during a party scene. I’m also in the middle of filming for two comedy TV shows that I have a lead role in and a drama film, and my new music video featuring Philadelphia rap artists Freeway and Beann is set to drop soon.
What expert advice would you like to give?
My advice is to never give up on YOU! Life isn’t always going to go the way you want it to, but when you have a gift, you have a purpose. Don’t allow setbacks, mistakes, or difficult seasons to make you forget who you are or the greatness within you. Never let life take away the woman God created you to be.
