Personal and Professional Insights

What drives your creative passion, and how do you stay inspired?

I love being creative, it is my passion and love. It is love, it helps me to create. When I do something out of passion and love, it will help me. I watch old movies, listen to old music and history, it helps me to be creative. Watching Marilyn Monroe is a way for me to keep going and see what I can do. I wrote the script for Mabel and the movie won my first prize. Mabel, a short film based on Mabel Normand and Peg Entwistle, I created the movie because of my love and respect for silent movies. Silent movies are magical and when I create I want it to be magical.

Can you share a pivotal moment that shifted your career trajectory?

Mabel. After working and working all these years, it finally paid off and it was thanks to Mabel.

How do you balance personal and professional life, especially in the public eye?

My family is private so I prefer not to talk about them without their permission, but what I can say is that they have been with me since before, when it all started, and they are still here, my biggest cheerleaders. I have good friends that I have worked with for years and when we work together we are colleagues, but at home we are ordinary people who are friends. I have learned to distinguish between the professional Elin-Margareta and the private Elin-Margareta, it helps me to focus.

Challenges and Growth

What’s the most significant obstacle you’ve overcome, and what did you learn from it?

I am ok to say “no” and demand what I deserve. I have also come to terms with the fact that I look young and take that into account when choosing a job.

How do you handle criticism or negative feedback, and what’s your strategy for self-care?

If I cry over criticism I am in the wrong industry and there is always a difference between good and bad criticism, good criticism helps to improve the work and bad criticism is just, I roll my eyes. A few years ago I got my first ever troll and I was told during my acting course that I would have passed it if I got a troll.

What skills or knowledge do you wish you had earlier in your career?

I have always been afraid of my own singing voice and I wished it didn’t scare me, but now I sing and I love it.

Influences and Collaborations

Who are your biggest influences or role models, and why?

Marilyn Monroe, she was more than a blonde, she was powerful. Peg Entwistle, she wasn’t a failed actress, she was a successful stage actress, Mabel Normand one of the greatest comedians, Virginia Rappe, she was her own publicist for the model and actress Virginia Rappe and more truth about her has come out, she was amazing. I love silent movie stars and directors, they were gods and created amazing work. They are the reason we create movies, theater and get to enjoy something we love.

What’s your dream collaboration or project, and why is it significant to you?

Wow, that’s a great question. I have so many people I want to work with, both dead and alive. Above all, I want to work with people who love and respect the craft. Playing Pamela Voorhees is a dream role and playing Carol Daly, the detective in a case that was connected to the Golden State Killer and Carol was the first female detective connected to the Golden State Killer case. There are some great Swedish actors and directors that I would love to work with, Peter Haber is one of them, he is a great comedian and serious actor who can be funny in the Christmas series and great as the detective in the Beck movies.

How do you select projects or partnerships that align with your values?

I have worked with some amazing artists who share the same love of art as I do. I work mostly in horror, but I love all movies and my personal values will never stop me from making movies or working with people, nor will my professional values stop me from living and working. The characters I play are all extremely different from each other, no one is the same as the other and that’s what I want.

Legacy and Future

What legacy do you hope to leave in your industry, and how do you plan to achieve it?

I love the golden age, horror movies and silent movies, I want to continue to make movies and series where the craft is respected. I am writing a horror series The Frenzied Quill with the writer and journalist Paul Bagnall, we have not created this show to be famous but the love of the art and also that this is serious. I want to be what Peg Entwistle was to Bette Davis, Bette saw Peg on stage when she was little and wanted to be an actress just like Peg. I want someone to see that my work is amazing and that the industry needs to be respected. I will continue to work and create movies that I love and not follow the path where we are limited, we are in the pretend business, we get to play characters that we are not in our private lives. It’s fun and we can’t go around thinking about limiting our work because someone somewhere might get hurt.  My legacy will be fun, chaotic but the passion for the craft is genuine.
