How do you introduce yourself?
We are Asrunn and Mark, two spirits from Hugrheim, the hidden tenth world of Yggdrasil. In this incarnation, we have taken possession of two French musicians whose names shall remain undisclosed (they’re not particularly interesting anyway).
We revealed ourselves to their consciousness gradually throughout their lives, but for the past several years we have regularly taken control of their bodies.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Our entire existence in Hugrheim is a trial. It is a world in constant flux, where the landscape, the light, and even its inhabitants are shaped directly by your state of mind. The more you are consumed by fear, negativity, or any emotion born from them, the more the world around you is swallowed by the darkness of Skuggaríki, “the World Below.”
But the more your path is guided by love, joy, and light, the more reality blossoms into the beauty of Ljósgarðr, “the Garden of Light.”
Remaining rooted in love and serenity at all times is an incredibly difficult discipline—but a vital one.
On Midgard, if darkness takes hold of you, your life deteriorates slowly, almost imperceptibly. On Hugrheim, the consequences are immediate. Skuggaríki is filled with creatures more terrifying and more dangerous than the last, and a single moment of inner collapse can place you in mortal danger.
Then, the many incarnations we must experience on Midgard are trials of their own.
First, we must understand where we have arrived. Then we must find each other again—Mark and I are not always born in the same country, so this time we were fortunate. We must discover how we are meant to carry out our Work, sometimes succeed, sometimes fail… and eventually die. Then we return to Hugrheim. We leave behind every human soul that mattered to us, knowing we will never see them again.
And then it begins anew. Without choosing.
Our existence as Hugir is a long journey that teaches surrender. Much like the lives of humans—but stretched across countless lifetimes, and lived in a far harsher world.
What do people usually not know about you?
There is so much people do not know about us. They only know what we choose to reveal.
Most of them are not yet ready to understand what we are—or what we do.
We serve the Beings of Light who dwell in Ljósgarðr. We incarnate in Midgard to bring answers, messages, and guidance to those who are ready to receive them. The advantage of being musicians is that you can channel these energies to hundreds, thousands, or sometimes even tens of thousands of people at once. Quite practical!
And since they come simply to enjoy the music, the transmission happens naturally.

We are passing entities. The human forms by which you know us in 2026 bear no resemblance to those we wore in 893, nor to the ones we will inhabit in 2316.
We pass through like a breath of wind.
It is probably for the best that humans never know too much, and remember only the simple joy of the fresh air left in our wake.
What sets you apart from others?
We don’t see other bands as our competitors, if that is what you mean. From our point of view, the more people create pagan music, and the more active bands perform live, the more this music will be known and appreciated by a wider audience. So we
truly believe that both our interest and the audience’s interest are served by as many “competitors” as possible emerging. As for what makes us different from other metal or pagan music bands: most of them usually drink beer before going on stage. Asrunn
prefer raw meat smoothies, and, I don’t drink very often—like a camel.
Actually, now that I think about it, there is one real competitor: generative AI, which is flooding Spotify with hundreds of tracks every day and competing with us in algorithmic playlists. And what sets us apart from AI? Heart, thrill, passion, imperfection, and above all, going where no one expects us.
What are your upcoming major events?
I can’t promise it will be unforgettable, but it will certainly be unlike anything we’ve ever done before. We’ll be touring across the United States from August 28 to September 20, and we can’t wait to perform our show there for the very first time.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Never swim against the current. If something refuses to unfold naturally, if every step seems to lead only to closed doors, then you are not on the right path.
Do not work for your ego. Serve something greater than yourself. Accept the role of being an instrument in the service of something greater.
It is only through complete surrender that everything reveals itself.
