Carlos Batista As Cover Story – September 2023
How do you introduce yourself?
I’ve had the privilege of being paid to travelling the world as well as live and work in The Netherlands and United Kingdom. My career in the corporate world not only provided me with amazing opportunities to experience different countries, cultures, and ways of doing business but, also prepared me to take no the challenge of being a business coach and giving back the knowledge I have obtained to those who can benefit from it. My work now revolves around my life statement which is ‘I am at my best when I am contributing to others being at their best’.
I am a mindset and business transformation specialist and I Empower business growth by leveraging the digital world, combining high-quality coaching services, a passion for perfectionism, speedy delivery, prioritizing clients’ needs, and flexible coaching strategies.
Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?
My journey from childhood to adulthood was a challenging one but, looking back now it provided me with the skills I need to take on any challenge. At the age of 5 I was a refugee from Mozambique due to the civil war and my family and I escaped with the clothes on our backs and arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa to start all over again. It was not easy, but my parents took control of what needed to be done for us to survive and thrive.
While I never had life’s luxuries growing up, my parents always provided what I needed. Throughout my school career, I was very much on my own with regard to my studies and how I did at school. My parents did not know English well enough to support me in my schoolwork. When I graduated from Grade 12, my choice of career was up to me, but I managed to take control of it, choose my own path, and qualified as an electrical technician. From there my career moved into the gaming industry (casinos) where I climbed through the ranks, gaining huge amounts of experience and knowledge, and got paid to travel the world.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I have been down and out losing everything 4 times in my life but, every time I managed to get up, fight on and end up better off than I was before I went down. I have always believed that I can do anything I set my mind to and looking back, there is more than enough proof that I have, and I can so, my mindset is always that there is a way, and I will find it!
The most recent hardship was having a heart attack in November of 2022 and 2 weeks later I had a heart operation. I still have a lot to offer so I fought on and keep fighting on while being grateful for every day, week, month, and year that I get to impact other’s lives.
What do people usually not know about you?
I was never one to chase academic achievements and chose the rather discover new things on my own. I am largely self-taught which includes working with computers, navigating the Internet, designing websites, graphic design, content creation, and understanding social media platforms. All of which is self-taught.
If I find a platform or program that I feel will benefit me and my clients, I find out all I can about it, teach myself to use it, and then apply it to my business and my clients. I absolutely love learning something new and, in most cases, the challenges I come across end up being opportunities to learn and grow. I am always looking for the opportunity in any challenge that comes my way.
What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?
Firstly, my coaching style is that of skills transfer. I transfer the skills my clients need to them, to a point where they have everything they need and don’t require me anymore. That may seem counter-intuitive but, that I how I empower my clients besides, that are many more potential clients who could use my skills.
Secondly, everything I teach my clients regarding strategies to grow their business, does not require a marketing or advertising budget. I do all I can to reduce monthly expenses while helping you grow your business.
What are your upcoming major events?
I have created a Group on LinkedIn where I am starting to share all I know about leveraging the platform for business growth without the need for a marketing or advertising budget. I am teaching group members all I know about the platform and its features, holding nothing back. My aim is to create one of the biggest, most impactful, and valuable groups on LinkedIn. I know I have a lot to offer when it comes to using LinkedIn for business growth and I want to share it with as many people as possible… for Free!
I get told I give away too much but, I am living to my life statement of ‘I am at my best when I am contributing to others being at their best!’.
What are your food preferences and physical attributes?
My food preference has been adapted for the fact that I have hemochromatosis. I was diagnosed earlier this year after my heart attack as it was more than likely what caused my heart disease. My diet consists of grains, salads, fruit, chicken, and fish. I have adapted well because frankly, I love eating and as long as it tastes good, I am good.
Never been a fussy eater so it has helped me adapt. I was overweight and short in primary school but, since secondary school I grew to 1.82m tall and my weight has been stable for as long as I can remembers. I have always tried to keep fit when I can. I have clothes that are more than 10 years old that fit me just fine.
Your love life, relationships and family?
I was married for 10 years and during that time, I had the privilege of bringing up two amazing sons. They are now 24 and 23 years old and doing an amazing job of building their careers. They make me proud every day.
I have a partner for the last 4 years and we are doing great. We have each other’s backs whenever times get tough, and we always get through.
What expert advice would you like to give?
I have a saying that I live by and always share with other, ‘Your dreams are showing you what you can achieve if you have the courage to follow them!’ so, never give up because, the only time you will fail is when you give up. There is always a way and although you may have to try a few times, you will find it provided you just keep going. One step at a time, one day and a time, and eventually, the next step you take will get you there.
You don’t need fancy degrees and diplomas; all you need is the willingness to just keep going no matter what. You can do it and, you will do it if you stay committed to achieving success.
