April Floyd As Cover Story Interview – October 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I’m April Floyd, a St. Louis–based journalist, author, filmmaker, producer, entrepreneur, and entertainment executive. I’m co-CEO of FEG-Floyd Entertainment Group and co-founder of the Legends in Film Festival. Through my work, I develop stories and creative projects that celebrate culture, preserve legacies, and inspire people to see what’s possible.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
One of the greatest challenges I’ve faced was a serious cancer battle that brought me to a point where I was in hospice care. It changed how I understood strength, time, and purpose. I kept moving forward, and my experiences, including the support I received from my service dog, Onyx, became part of the story I now share with others. My hardships didn’t erase my dreams; they gave me a deeper reason to pursue them.
What do people usually not know about you?
People may know me as a producer or entrepreneur, but they may not know how much of my work begins with a story I feel compelled to tell. I’m involved in many parts of the creative process, from developing ideas and writing to building the relationships and plans that help bring a project to life. I care deeply about creating opportunities for stories and legacies that deserve to be remembered.
What sets you apart from others?
I bring together storytelling, entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation. I’m committed to building projects that can entertain people while also honoring real lives, communities, and history. I’m proud to do that work from St. Louis and to help show that powerful stories and creative leadership can come from anywhere.
What are your upcoming major events?
On October 10, I’m hosting Onyx Furbaby Floyd’s Paw Patrol Pawty and Wishbone Christmas Community Kickoff in St. Louis. It brings together animal lovers, pet families, and our local community around Onyx’s story and the film. I’m also in development of Wishbone Christmas a feature film starring my service dog, Onyx Furbaby Floyd, and planning future editions of the Legends in Film Festival.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Believe in the value of your story, and be willing to learn the business behind your dream. Keep creating, build relationships with integrity, and stay organized about your ideas and your work. You don’t need to have every step figured out before you begin, you do need the courage to take the next step and the persistence to keep going.
