Here is the Q&A session we had with Anthony Trucks.
Anthony Trucks As Cover Story Interview – July 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I’m Anthony Trucks, a foster kid turned NFL athlete who spent years building an identity around football, then had to rebuild one from nothing when it disappeared. Today I run Dark Work, where I help people optimize their identity for peak performance, and Speak to Freedom, where I bring that same work into corporate rooms.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I went into foster care at three years old and stayed in the system until fourteen, including placements where I was beaten, starved, and treated like a paycheck instead of a kid. Football became my way out, until a shoulder injury ended my NFL career overnight. The years after broke me further. My marriage ended, my gym failed, and I ended up in a five hundred square foot apartment with three kids on an air mattress, at a point dark enough that I was actively looking for a way out. My mother’s death in 2014 pushed me to finally rebuild, and my wife and I eventually remarried.
What do people usually not know about you?
I wear the same basketball shorts I’ve had for seven years, and I’m not chasing a Ferrari or a jet, because the people I get to spend time with matter more than anything I could buy. I was adopted out of foster care by a family with almost nothing, and now my wife and I foster a child ourselves, so the story closes a loop most people never see.
What sets you apart from others?
Most people teaching identity work are theorizing. I lived through the collapse of every identity I’d built, football, marriage, business, and rebuilt using the exact process I now teach. Nine years of a daily podcast before anyone was listening backs that up, and my own family runs on the same principles I coach.
What are your upcoming major events?
We’re building a custom tech platform for Dark Work coaching, moving the work from a coaching program into something scalable, alongside a steady schedule of speaking engagements and podcast appearances.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Do the work nobody’s going to see before you ever expect a reward for it. I’ve done too much work in the dark to lose in the light, and that’s the actual mechanism, not a slogan. Fall in love with the effort, and the results take care of themselves.
