How do you introduce yourself?

My name is TiamatMontielCasarín. I’ve always found it difficult to answer this question with just a profession because I’ve done many different things throughout my life.

I currently work in administration and project management within the residential construction industry, a world that has taught me a great deal about business, negotiation, people, and, above all, problem-solving. At the same time, I’m developing my own projects related to construction, maintenance, and business development.

But I’m also a mother, I’ve been writing for years, I paint, I play guitar, I love jazz, and there’s a deeply creative side of me that probably doesn’t match the first impression people get when they meet me professionally.

I’m a rather unusual combination of chaos and structure. Somehow, it works.

Struggle — What hardships have you gone through in life?

I don’t believe a story needs to become a tragedy in order to be meaningful.

I’ve gone through difficult moments, losses, disappointments, changes, and periods when I’ve had to start over. But perhaps my greatest challenge has been learning not to lose myself among all the different versions of me that other people need.

I became a mother at a young age, and while I was learning how to be one, I was also trying to figure out who I wanted to become professionally and what I wanted to build for my own life. Over the years came more responsibilities: family, work, marriage, projects, finances, decisions, and people depending on me.

For a long time, I confused being strong with being able to carry everything.

Now I believe the real challenge has been learning balance: understanding what deserves my energy, accepting that I can’t control everything, and continuing to build without forgetting to live in the process.

I’m still learning.

What do people usually not know about you?

I grew up in a rather unconventional environment, surrounded by artisans, musicians, and creative people. I think a very important part of my personality comes from that.

I’ve also been writing for many years. I paint, play a little guitar, and I’m fascinated by observing people and trying to understand why we do the things we do.

And there’s one fairly random fact about me: around ten years ago, I appeared on a television show in Mexico City. Today, my life is filled with budgets, contracts, and construction projects, so sometimes even I find it funny to think that actually happened.

What sets you apart from others?

I think it’s my ability to solve problems.

I don’t need to know every answer from the beginning. I need to understand the problem, identify what information I’m missing, find the right people, and move the pieces until we reach a solution.

That ability has allowed me to work across very different areas: administration, construction, negotiation, client relations, vendors, and business development.

I also pay close attention to people. Over time, I’ve realized that almost every business ultimately depends on something deeply human: trust, communication, and the ability to understand what the person in front of you truly needs.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m at an interesting point in my life because I’m moving away from thinking solely in terms of having a “job” and beginning to think in terms of building companies.

After several years of managing projects, negotiating, solving problems, and coordinating people, I want to take that experience and apply it to projects of my own.

One of the concepts I’m currently developing comes from a phrase that represents me very well: Acta Non Verba — deeds, not words.

The idea is centered around business development and closing opportunities: connecting people, projects, and needs until a conversation becomes something that actually happens.

I’m also continuing to develop projects related to construction, maintenance, and remodeling.

I believe the next few years of my life will be much more focused on building something of my own.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Learn how to solve problems before worrying too much about looking like an expert.

Ask questions. Research. Listen to people who know more than you do. Learn how to negotiate. Recognize quickly when you’re wrong, and correct course even faster.

Most importantly, execute.

I’ve met extraordinarily intelligent people with incredible ideas who never do anything with them, and I’ve met people who started out knowing very little but had the discipline to learn while moving forward.

Thinking is important. Planning is important too.

But eventually, you have to make it happen.
