Dr. Nigam Sedhai As Cover Story Interview – July 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I’m Dr. Nigam Sedhai, a self-taught surreal realism artist originally from Nepal and now based in Texas. Alongside my full-time career and family life, I create paintings that explore memory, identity, resilience, and the beauty found in everyday moments.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Balancing a full-time profession, motherhood, healthy lifestyle, and an artistic career has been one of my greatest challenges. Time is my scarcest resource, but those constraints have also taught me discipline, gratitude, and the importance of creating even when life is busy.
What do people usually not know about you?
Many people assume I have formal art training, but I’m entirely self-taught. My work is largely shaped by ordinary experiences such as books, cultures, memories from Nepal where I lived for 24 years of my life, and emotions that are difficult to express in words.
What sets you apart from others?
My work blends surrealism, realism, and geometric abstraction to tell deeply personal stories. I approach painting as visual journaling storytelling, using symbolism and layered compositions to capture emotions and memories that often go unnoticed.
What are your upcoming major events?
I’m continuing to expand my body of work and actively participate in exhibitions across the Dallas Fort Worth area while exploring new opportunities to share my art with wider audiences and collectors. Mckinney Art Fest is a show that I showcase in every year, and I am permanently based in Mckinney Art Gallery as well.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Don’t wait for perfect conditions to pursue your passion. Consistency and discipline matter more than talent. Create with honesty, stay curious, and allow your own experiences, not trends to shape your voice.
