Dean Simone As Cover Story Interview – March 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I am a man of creations, ideas and beliefs…an American actor, screenwriter, filmmaker, lead singer, model, songwriter and guitarist. I’ve had recurring roles in series like Netflix/Imagine Entertainment GRINGO HUNTERS and Adam McKay’s WINNING TIME on HBO, where I played Pulitzer Prize winning, sportswriting legend Jim Murray. I wrote, co- produced and starred in GAME DAY, which has received critical praise . I am blessed to have worked in many films with brilliant artists, like in Craig Gillespie’s DUMB MONEY which also stars, Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Seth Rogan and Vincent D’Onofrio…

I have worked with Michel Gondry, Jon Voight, Billy Bob Thornton, David E. Kelley, Steven Bochco, David Milch, Mickey Rourke and Hoyte van Hoytema. I have appeared in numerous Super Bowl commercials including a portrayal of JIM BEAM, that kicked off a two-year global campaign. I perform throughout the world as the front man of THE SMOKIN’ COBRAS, a band that’s played from Dodger Stadium to Tokyo, Japan. Born in New Jersey, my home is Southern California. I am a Non-Dualistic-Catholic-Taoist, pursuing Buddha consciousness, the perfect song, the ultimate role and a beautiful script. Most importantly I am a family man and love my family of man.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

The Buddha says “Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional”. And so, I choose not to be any more defined by my struggles than I am by my successes. Both pass. I have known what it’s like to be poor…to feel disconnected…to feel forgotten and I suppose that makes me exactly the same as the 8 billion others in this place and time.

What do people usually not know about you?

That my straight job for many years was coaching high school football. Also, I am so thrilled I get to guest a lot on spiritual based podcasts, where I have talked with so many really cool people.

What sets you apart from others?

Nothing. We are all one, literally. One self having 8 billion (there’s that number again) human experiences. Each and every “human suit” tailored for the journey.

What are your upcoming major events ?

I’ve got a role on ABC’s “RJ Decker” which is coming out March/April. THE SMOKIN’ COBRAS are getting prepared to do a series of concerts this summer. And I am actively working towards getting my newest screenplay shot in ’26 (investors welcome).

What expert advice would you like to give?

To let go of all and any things that “should” or “shouldn’t” be and be squarely and peacefully in “what is”. That the measure of enlightenment is how comfortable you feel with your own contradictions. That there is no need to fight against one’s evil impulses, just gently fall into one’s good nature. Not everything can be corrected, but everything could always be done at the highest level you can perform it in that moment. We have the life we’re willing to live with. And finally, we are all “experts”.
