Lizette Cooper As Cover Story Interview – December 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I introduce myself with a bright smile and an enthusiasm for getting to know the person in front of me.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I survived an abusive relationship, which has left me with cPTSD, and I have struggled with my mental health since then. I started therapy during that time and I haven’t stopped. I have had my research taken from me, and I’ve had to restart with a different research topic. I was given one weekend to rewrite the entirety of my thesis or else I wouldn’t have been able to graduate with my master’s degree. The stress of having to go through the aforementioned in such a small time span while being a chemistry professor at the same time gave me burn out. I decided to give up on the science world and switch to acting after my 300th application and my first phone interview where the interviewer had told me that “hiring managers tend to ignore people with Master’s degrees.” During this time, I invested some of my Covid stipend into my first acting class since undergrad. Over the next two years, I had spent my time applying to any part time jobs who would hire me to allow myself time to still dedicate to my acting career. In those two years, I ended up becoming a caretaker for my Grandmother, and applying to nearly every location in my town, and the next few towns over.

While being unemployed, I was low on savings, so I pulled from my retirement. I worked for a few months at a dog groomer’s after my Grandma let me go, and learned that I am very allergic to dogs. I managed to finally get to where I am still currently working, however, I was in a severe car accident four months into my new job. I experienced a severe concussion to where my speech was slowed and suffered amnesia. I’m still recovering from the accident and still finding memories that I should remember but have no recollection, like childhood and my past trainer’s names. Reintroducing myself to one of my past physical trainers was horrifying to me. I have had to spend the last 2 years relearning how to do things like drive, speak Portuguese and French, and even how to be an actress again. Even through all these hardships, I still keep going, because I know that if I don’t, the world will keep going without me, and I don’t want to miss out on any more living.

What do people usually not know about you?

People don’t usually know that I’m actually quite shy and introverted.

What sets you apart from others?

I think what sets me apart from others is my tenacity. I still keep going while finding ways to better myself, both on the personal and professional levels.

What are your upcoming events?

I am thrilled to be working on my voice over reel. I have been learning how to edit audio so that my breathing isn’t distracting, and I have been excited to discover and expand my voice style range.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Be sure to give yourself grace when going through tough times, and remember that slow progress is still progress.
