Anna Coomes As Cover Story Interview – May 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Hello! My name is Anna Coomes, owner of Its A Magical Life travel agency. I am a mama to 2 beautiful babies and share all the “real life” moments while traveling with my kiddos. I have focused my business on helping other mamas make travel possible with their little ones and share all the tips and tricks. I specialize in Disney vacations, but have booked families from all over the world to so many different destinations outside of Disney including all inclusive, Paris, Hawaii, cruises all over the world, Universal, and various other locations.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
There are many hardships and struggles that have shaped me into the entrepreneur, mother, and wife I am today. But one that stands out the most is finding myself after becoming a mama. Our son was 3 months old when the world shut down for Covid. I chose to quit my job to stay home with him and keep him safe. Prior to covid, I had worked full time since I was 18. I had a masters degree in social work, and felt all of that coming to an end. There were so many changes happening around us and so many uncertainties. I felt helpless and honestly, lost myself in the early months of our sons life. My husband worked in health care and was gone a good bit. I was isolated with a baby.
“Mama” quickly became my identity. And while that is the absolute greatest role that I could take on, I felt I was losing myself in the process. I had no contact with adults the majority of my son’s first year. As the world began to open, and travel was an option. We quickly booked a trip to Disney World. Our son was 8 months old, and it was exactly what I needed. We were able to reconnect as a family. It was after this trip that I decided to join Smart Moms Travel Agency. I wanted to help other mamas travel with their littles. I wanted other mamas to experience the magic, and I was going to help them make it possible. I began sharing all parts of traveling with littles. I wanted to be real and raw. I wanted to show that even in the chaos, magic truly does happen when traveling. And that is when Its A Magical Life Travel began.
What do people usually not know about you?
People do not know that while my husband and I love to travel, when we are at home we love a good DIY project and have DIYed almost all of our home. I grew up around construction, and I think its just engraved in me. When we first got married, we bought an old home and have been remodeling it since. Some of my favorite memories of early in our marriage were the projects we worked on together to make our house a home.
What sets you apart from others?
One thing that I work really hard to do is to be “real” on my social media. Traveling with kids is beautiful and magical, but its also super messy and chaotic. Meltdowns will happen, from the kids and the parents. Arguments will happen between the parents and kids, but also between the parents. I think social media has set the standard for the “picture perfect” family or vacation. And that is not reality. I have so many families that come to me and ask how we do it so well. And I really try to remind them that we dont. That its totally chaotic and stressful on our family vacations as well. I want to normalize this. I think there is so much shame on social media associated with how “picture perfect” influencers family and life is, especially on social media. And that if its not like that, then its bad or ruined. I really work hard to share all aspects and normalize the chaos. Even in the chaos, magic can happen.
What are your upcoming major events?
I have a few trips currently on the books, and some in the making. I am taking a girls trip in July with some fellow travel agents, and then going straight into a rewards trip that I won through my agency. Both of these will be at Disney World and I am looking forward to some personal growth, professional growth, and just some girl time! Our family has a cruise planned for September with Royal Caribbean and some of our closest friends and family. We will also be going to Disney World and Universal during that week. A Disney Cruise is in the works for our family and next year my husband and I, along with our close friends, are planning an international cruise to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.
What expert advice would you like to give?
I have travelled to Disney World with my children ages ranging from 5 weeks to 5 years old. We go 3-4 times a year and also fit in other vacations locally and a cruise. Each trip is different and as my children grow, the dynamics change as well. My biggest advice to any mama wanting to travel, but worried about taking their littles on vacation becuase they may be “too little”, would be to just take the trip. Sure it may be chaotic and I guarantee you sleep schedules will be off and melt downs will take place. But in all of that, there will be magic. Memories will be made. Breaking up the routine of home life will be so good for your family and you mama! Maybe in the midst of that meltdown on mainstream you may be questioning all decisions, but I promise you will look back and laugh at those moments. Just take the dang trip.
