How do you introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Susan Lavelle—an award-winning actress, lifelong horse lover, and passionate animal activist who believes deeply in rescue. I’m a proud mom of four incredible grown kids, Haylee, Sawyer, Hunter, Scarlett and a second mom by heart to Kayla. I believe that following your dreams takes courage—and that courage can change everything.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I’ve experienced hardship and loss, as most people do—grief, emotional setbacks, painful detours, and moments of despair I wasn’t sure I would come back from. What carried me through was my faith and a quiet trust in God, especially when answers weren’t clear. I’ve learned that a full life includes both heartbreak and joy, and that if you stay in the game of life, you will come back stronger and more compassionate toward what others are going through. I’ve also always had a couple of sweet animals by my side to love me through it all.
What do people usually not know about you?
My sweet daughter Sawyer reminded me of a screenplay I wrote about a Confederate soldier and his long-lost love. Not many people know that I write screenplays and poetry, and I love the behind-the-scenes side of the camera almost as much as being in front of it. One day, I’d love to direct a short film. Being in the entertainment business reminds me of working with horses—you never stop learning. I would also like to write a book, like my daughter Haylee did, about the trials and triumphs of fighting for your dreams.
What sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart is my combination of passion, experience, and compassion. I’ve pursued my dreams relentlessly, embraced the challenges life has thrown my way, and always stayed committed to the people and animals I love. That blend of determination, empathy, and heart is at the core of who I am.
What expert advice would you like to give?
My advice would be to follow your dreams, no matter how big or uncertain they may feel. Life will throw challenges and setbacks your way, but it’s in those moments that you grow the most. Don’t be afraid to take risks, stay true to your passions, and lean on faith or whatever grounds you. Surround yourself with people, animals, and passions that lift you up, and always approach life with kindness, gratitude, and compassion. Embracing life fully—with all its highs and lows—is the key to fulfillment.
