Sandy Avila As Cover Story – April 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hi, I am Sandy Avila. Owner of a custom 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme named Simply Beautiful.  Im a lowrider enthusiast, and also and president of a worldwide all female car club I founded, the Lady Lowrider Car Club.

Struggle- What hardships have you gone through in life?

I have had hardships just like anyone else; Family struggles, relationship struggles, friendship struggles, and even car building struggles. Each scenario has been a blessing in disguise as it has made me who I am today. A strong confidant woman who wants to see the next woman succeed.

What do people usually not know about you?

I am a truly a compassionate and empathetic person. Also I’m a girly girl who loves cars and make up. And I’m college educated.

What sets you apart from others?

My humility, with so many opportunities that have come my way and continue to do so, it is still a surprise to me. I have so many supporters and am truly grateful and appreciative, but in my eyes, I am just someone who loves to get in my car, cruise and hit my switches. I just do what I love. I know as a woman in the lowrider scene, I have taken on some responsibility to represent women, because when I started there were not as many as today. For some reason, there are still those added rules, like keep being “lady like”. So, when I hear someone tell me “You’re an inspiration” I know I am doing something right and motivates me to continue to do what I love.

What are your upcoming major events?

The major events I am looking forward to is the return of my car! My 1984 Cutlass named “Simply Beautiful”. She has been on display at the Petersen museum for the “Best in Low” exhibit since last May and is returning this May. Also, the completion of my current project, a 1966 Chevy Impala SS convertible.

There are a few future projects that I am excited about but are currently in negotiations.

Im also excited to be celebrating our 4 year club anniversary this year.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Stay true to yourself. Do things because you love them, not to seek recognition. When you do things you love and stay true to yourself, people will recognize you for your genuine self.

For the ladies, remember, you don’t have to alwayssupport all women. If a woman chooses to demean other women’s characters to further their personal agenda or simply uphold patriarch structures, they don’t belong in the girl power club.
