Saadia Afzaal As Cover Story Interview – August 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m a broadcast journalist with over two decades of experience in Pakistan’s electronic media. Over the years, I’ve worked as an anchor, reporter covering everything from politics and current affairs to social issues and human interest stories. Journalism isn’t just my profession—it’s my purpose. I believe in telling stories that matter and giving a voice to those who are unheard.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Like many in the media industry, my journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Breaking into journalism in Pakistan, especially being a woman required resilience. There were moments when safety was at risk and ethics were tested. Balancing professional responsibilities with personal sacrifices, and at times, navigating a male-dominated environment, made the road difficult—but also deeply rewarding.

What do people usually not know about you?

Most people see me as a journalist only but a very few people know that I’m a certified Yoga teacher— and like journalism, yoga is my passion too.

What sets you apart from others?

I think it’s the consistency of my commitment to journalism. In an age of sensationalism and misinformation, I strive to stick to facts, provide context and bring depth to the stories I tell. In the age when everyone was yelling at their guests to get more ratings, I stuck to my principles. My long-standing presence in the field has taught me not just how to report—but how to listen, question, and evolve.

What are your upcoming major events?

Ok, so yours is the first platform where I’m breaking this news that by the grace of God, we are launching our own digital channel on this 14th of August, Independence Day of Pakistan. After months of tireless effort, my team and I are proud to launch a digital channel that’s more than just a news platform—it’s a space for bold ideas, real conversations, and creative expression. From my podcast and vlogs on global affairs to comic shows, teenage-led programming, and street-level reporting, this bilingual platform (Urdu & English) aims to inform, entertain, and inspire.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Stay curious, stay grounded, and never stop questioning. Journalism isn’t about being the first to break the news—it’s about being accurate, responsible, and fair. Always remember that the real power of media lies not in attention, but in impact. And most importantly, protect your integrity—it’s your greatest asset.
