Roda Ogunpehin Exclusive Cover Story – July 2023

How do you introduce yourself?

Roda Ogunpehin: My name is Roda Ogunpehin and I support organisations in building inclusive workplaces by offering training, conducting audits, and fostering engagement.

Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?

Roda Ogunpehin: My transition from childhood to adulthood was truly remarkable! Growing up in a loving and supportive family, my parents instilled in me a strong sense of determination to pursue my dreams relentlessly. As a result, I matured quickly in my thinking and sought to learn from older, more experienced friends. Also, coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I always aspired to run my own enterprise.

While my upbringing in a strict religious household came with commitments and restrictions that provided a somewhat one-dimensional view of life and people, I now cherish the freedom of adulthood. As an adult, I am empowered to make my own decisions and find true fulfillment in them.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Roda Ogunpehin: A profoundly impactful moment etched in my memory was the unexpected loss of my dad. Enduring this challenging situation, I discovered an inner strength I never knew existed, refusing to let grief consume me. This experience transformed my outlook on life entirely. It taught me the invaluable lesson of appreciating life’s fragility and embracing the precious connections we share with others.

What do people usually not know about you?

Roda Ogunpehin: As an avid crystal collector, I take delight in their beauty, metaphysical properties, and sharing these with others on their own spiritual journey.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

I firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are not merely buzzwords but essential components for creating thriving workplaces and communities.

In the industry, I stand out through my comprehensive approach, combining research, innovative strategies, and empathetic communication. I strive to understand each client’s unique challenges, organisational culture, and specific goals, tailoring my solutions to suit their individual needs.

Roda Ogunpehin: Not Answered.

Your love life, relationships and family?

Roda Ogunpehin: I am married to an incredible man, and together, we embrace the joy of a blended family comprising five wonderful individuals.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Roda Ogunpehin: Embracing diversity and inclusion goes far beyond mere box-checking; it must be deeply ingrained in the fabric of every organisation’s culture. As a diversity and inclusion consultant, I urge you not to hesitate in seeking guidance on navigating your journey through the Equality Act, which is a legal requirement for most businesses.

When you look at many of the high profile cases of discrimination damages awarded, it becomes evident that there have been many missed opportunities to address these issues correctly from the outset. These cases serve as powerful reminders of the critical importance of proactively addressing and preventing discrimination.
