Rachel Coopes As Cover Story Interview – September 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Rachel Coopes is an actor, dancer, choreographer, storyteller, and artist. She was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she attended Western Michigan University for Dance and Public Health. Growing up, Rachel was never the dancer with the best turns or the highest leaps, but she was always the token storyteller – the one to tug on the heartstrings of the audience. “Although I loved my time at Western, and I grew as a dancer tremendously there, I found myself really missing the emotional, narrative type of dance that I had really fallen in love with while growing up competing. The Dance Department was definitely more concert, modern based, which is also beautiful and I can appreciate it, but it just doesn’t strike the same chord for me in my soul. So it really was no surprise at all when I fell into acting once I moved to LA. I really did have that aha moment of, ‘oh what I love most about all of this is the emotional storytelling of it all!’” “The very first thing I auditioned for in LA, I auditioned to be one of the dancers needed for a particular project, and I ended up booking the lead acting role. Which was terrifying! But luckily the director was wonderful and she held my hand throughout the whole process. After that, you better believe I dove head first into acting classes to figure out what the hell I was doing! Since then, I’ve done several movies, commercials, and I even won the award for Best Dramatic Actress at the Micheaux Film Festival for a film called ‘Phoenix’ which also took home Best Thriller.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Most people don’t know that I really struggled with eating disorders in high school and college. I’ve come a really long way since then. And it’s a constant journey, but whenever I’m feeling bad about myself, I remember that I want to represent a body that my younger self would’ve needed to see on screen. Or any woman for that matter!
What do people usually not know about you?
You know, I was just talking about this with one of my friends: I think a lot of people confuse joy and silliness, and a willingness to have fun… for stupidity. But the real ones know that it takes the full circle, the full spiritual journey, to end back up at CHOOSING joy and silliness. Now I’m at the point where if that gets misinterpreted as lack of intelligence, boy, that says more about you.”
What sets you apart from others?
“That’s a really tough question. Because truly, we’re all very unique. We all have a million-piece puzzle inside of us, each piece being something specific that makes us intrinsically ourselves. I guess if I were to pick out a few of my puzzle pieces that may be extra bright, I would say my warmth, depth, and passion. I always say, ‘I’m not cool, I’ll never be cool. I’m warm! And I like that about myself!’ Why hide what you’re feeling? If you’re having a blast, scream! If you’re obsessed with something, own it. Turn it all the way up. Love full out. I’m very much a level 100 kinda girl. In every capacity.
What are your upcoming major events?
Top secret! Hehe. But follow along on IG for updates!
What expert advice would you like to give?
Oooo. Well I’m really passionate about Human Design. It’s been an absolute game changer for me, so if you don’t know yours, I highly recommend learning about it. And along with that, I learned from a manifestation coach a while back that the most powerful thing you can do is to ask yourself, ‘if nothing about my life changed, starting today, how would I still be happy?’ This little mantra has made me participate in my life in a way that has not only brought me so much joy, but has also led to a lot of momentum. I really do think love and joy are so powerful.
