How do you introduce yourself?
I’m Phyllis Abena, a marketing and social media manager, singer, certified voice over actress and I model occasionally. I was born and raised in Germany with Ghanaian roots. Growing up, I started playing musical instruments, taking singing lessons and sang in musicals at a young age. In addition, I started dancing, when I was 12 years old and took part at dance competitions, such as the hip hop world championship.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Growing up in a German family in a dominantly white environment with frequent contact to my biological family from when I was a toddler on, has forced me to overcome difficult seasons and obstacles in life. Managing to balance this kind of situation, was an art in itself.
What do people usually not know about you?
People usually don’t know about me, that I studied law in Germany, before starting my career in the media industry. After high school, I lived in the USA for 1 ½ years, which later influenced my decision to study American law in Berlin next to the German law studies. I successfully got my American Law Certificate, but later quit my German law studies and invested my time into the media and music management studies, a field, that felt more familiar for me.
What sets you apart from others?
Thanks to my degree in media and music management, work experience at a major label and a global film company, as well as working with well-known artists, I became a versatile artist with a good understanding of the media, music, and film business.
Concerning the saying, that life can only be understood backwards, I guess, my free time activities from early on are an advantage for the skills, I needed in the business world. Other than that, I love details and can focus very well, when it`s about my work, aesthetics and being precise.
What are your upcoming major events?
Currently there are no upcoming events, but I am always excited for new projects concerning work and the process of creating new music.
What expert advice would you like to give?
In the end, we only regret the chances, we didn’t take, so when it comes to make decisions for your next career path or your private life, go after what makes you happy. Sometimes, what seems to look delusional for others in the first place, may be the right decision for you to make, as you are the only person, who can already see the vision.
