Phillip Hodge As Cover Story Interview – September 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Phillip Hodge, but most people know me as Thuggizzle — an artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist from San Antonio, Texas. My work spans across music, business, and community impact. I’m the founder of Thuggizzle Music Group, Thuggizzle Water LLC, and Thuggizzle Cares Inc., a nonprofit focused on youth empowerment and literacy. Through my music, I share stories of resilience and perseverance. Through my nonprofit, I give back to the community by creating programs that inspire kids to read, achieve academically, and dream bigger. Through my business, I show that sustainability and social good can go hand in hand. Everything I do ties back to one mission — making a positive difference.

Childhood to adulthood transition?

I grew up in a world where stability was rare. From an early age, I was placed in shelters, group homes, and the foster care system. Life taught me lessons the hard way, but it also gave me the strength and determination to rise above the circumstances I was born into Those experiences shaped my character. They gave me the drive to not just survive but to thrive. My journey from a child with limited support to an adult building businesses and uplifting communities is proof that you can turn pain into Those experiences shaped my character. Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I’ve faced some of the toughest challenges life can throw at you. Losing my youngest sister about a year ago, and then my mother in April 2025, broke my heart. Those losses were heavy, but they also strengthened my commitment to live in a way that honors them. Beyond family loss, my entire upbringing was a test — no parents to guide me, no steady home, and constant struggles in foster care. But those hardships gave me perspective. They taught me that no matter how dark life gets, you can find light if you hold onto faith and discipline.

What makes you unique?

What makes me unique is that I don’t fit into just one box. I’m not only a hip-hop artist but also an entrepreneur and community activist. While many chase fame, I chase impact — building platforms that inspire, educate, and support the next generation. My music, my nonprofit, and my business ventures are all connected. Whether it’s dropping a song, reading to kids, or launching Thuggizzle Water in eco-friendly cans, I am always focused on creating something that lasts and serves a purpose bigger than me.

What do people usually not know about you?

One thing many don’t know is that at just 2 years old, I met King Charles III (then Prince Charles) during his 1986 visit to San Antonio. The Prince was amazed at how articulate I was, even as a toddler, and that moment stayed with me for life. That rare encounter became more than just a memory — it became a seed. It reminded me that no matter where you come from, you can stand in the presence of greatness. Today, I use that story as a reminder to inspire others: your beginnings don’t define your future.

What sets you apart from the rest?

What sets me apart is that my story is real — I’ve lived through hardships that many only hear about, and I’ve turned them into a mission to uplift others. I’m not only about music or money; I’m about impact. Every move I make connects back to my community. While others focus only on personal success, I believe true success is measured by how many lives you touch. From literacy programs for kids to water donations and academic incentives, I make sure my career and businesses reflect service and purpose.

What are your upcoming major events?

Looking ahead, I have multiple projects on the horizon. In 2026, I plan to release new music that carries both energy and meaning — music that speaks to struggle, faith, and growth. I’m also expanding Thuggizzle Water into more retail spaces, attractions, and hotels, while strengthening partnerships with community organizations. At the same time, Thuggizzle Cares Inc. will continue to grow programs like Thuggizzle Reads to Kids and Thuggizzle Make The Grade to help students in San Antonio and beyond.

Food preferences and physical attributes?

I’ve made major lifestyle changes in recent years. I used to weigh 240 pounds, but through discipline and healthier eating, I transformed myself down to 180 pounds. That health
