Michael El Bacha As Cover Story Interview – May 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Michael El Bacha. I’m an author, radio and TV host, someone who’s worn many hats and lived through even more stories. As an LGBTQIA+ advocate, I use my voice to shine a light on the truths that often go unheard. Whether I’m behind a mic, in front of a camera, or writing behind the scenes, I’m always driven by one thing: the power of authenticity and human connection.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

My journey has been anything but conventional. I was raised in a conservative Christian environment, where coming out as gay wasn’t just taboo — it felt impossible. At one point, I was in an arranged marriage to my cousin in Lebanon, living a life that didn’t belong to me. I lost myself trying to meet everyone else’s expectations, and that loss led me to one of the darkest chapters of my life — battling depression and facing a suicidal moment that forced me to choose: survive or disappear. There was also a major health scare that shook me to my core — but in a strange way, it brought clarity. I realized that hiding was no longer an option. I had to step into the truth of who I am — not just for myself, but for others who might feel just as trapped. That’s what led me to write my memoir — to help people find strength in their stories and know that self-acceptance is possible, even in the face of deep fear and cultural pressure. I didn’t just survive — I reclaimed my life.

What do people usually not know about you?

Most people see the confident voice on the radio or the polished host on TV, but they don’t know the road I took to get here. There was a time I completely lost myself — emotionally, spiritually, even physically — just trying to survive. I did what I had to do, including working as an escort, because there were no safety nets and no one to catch me. That chapter of my life carries pain, but also power. It taught me how to survive when the world turned its back. What many don’t see is that, behind the scenes, I was also quietly holding my family together. I became a lifeline for my mum and dad — emotionally and physically. It wasn’t just caretaking; it was sacrificing parts of myself to protect the people I loved. That responsibility shaped me just as much as my public work — maybe even more.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is my authentic self. I don’t wear masks or hide behind expectations — what you see is what you get. I’m a genuine lover of people, deeply caring and compassionate, with a strong sense of empathy that drives me to connect and support others. I’m also a dreamer and a believer — someone who holds onto hope even when things get tough. That combination of honesty, heart, and optimism is what defines me.

What are your upcoming major events ?

I’m about to celebrate my big 50 in style — heading to beautiful Bali with my closest entourage for what’s sure to be an unforgettable milestone. After that, I’ll be featured as a star model at the Million Dreams Charity Gala, an event close to my heart. I’m also excited to be part of the TV show Bring Back the Romance with Soula Toumbos, which is especially meaningful to me because it tackles taboo subjects like social acceptance and breaking down stigma. Plus, I’ll be attending several VIP events and openings. It’s a busy and thrilling time, and I’m loving every moment of it!

What expert advice would you like to give?

My advice is simple but powerful: be authentic. Embrace your genuine self because you are perfect just the way you are. Dream big, don’t hold back, and chase those dreams with everything you’ve got. Love deeply, be kind to yourself and others, and don’t forget to be romantic — with life and with people. Most importantly, believe in yourself, even when it feels hard. That’s where true strength and magic begin.
