Mariah Kendra As Cover Story Interview – January 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m Mariah, a professional traveling makeup artist with nearly a decade of experience. What started as a small kit and a big passion has grown into a business that’s taken me across states and overseas, working with women during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. I don’t just apply glam, I focus on enhancing confidence and creating an experience that feels just as beautiful as the final look.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Like many artists, my journey hasn’t been linear. Mental Health has always been a struggle for me. I’ve faced seasons of burnout, uncertainty, comparison and moments where I had to step away completely to rebuild. I grew up in Boston, MA where things moved very fast & I moved a lot through my high school years, that meant I no longer could be a kid, I had to grow up and grow up fast. I didn’t believe in my abilities enough to make my passion into a real business. I had close family members tell me “Makeup isn’t a real career” so I kept shifting and trying different jobs to shut out my passion. Negative thoughts can be powerful but can be overcome. Balancing passion with sustainability, navigating personal challenges, and learning when to slow down were all difficult but necessary lessons for me. Those experiences shaped not only my work ethic, but also the empathy and care I bring to every client I work with.

What do people usually not know about you?

People often see the finished glam, but they don’t always see how intentional I am behind the scenes. I’m deeply invested in the emotional side of my work. The conversations, the trust, and the moments clients remember long after the makeup comes off. I see my role as more than an artist. I’m often a calming presence, a hype woman, and a safe space during very important days.

What sets you apart from others?

My approach is rooted in personalization and connection. I believe great makeup should feel like you, just elevated, never masked. I focus heavily on technique, skin prep, and longevity so my clients look just as beautiful in person as they do in photos. Most importantly, I aim to create an experience where clients feel heard, comfortable, and confident from start to finish.

What are your upcoming major events?

Bridal Beauty Expo Santa Clara Feb 2026. I’m continuing to expand my work through 2026 destination events, styled shoot projects, and master education within the beauty industry.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Invest in your craft before investing in comparison. Technique, professionalism, and consistency will always outlast trends. Also, don’t underestimate the power of how you make people feel. That’s the whole point of doing it. Talent may open doors, but connection keeps them open. Finally, give yourself permission to grow, pause, and pivot when needed. Longevity comes from honoring both your passion and your well-being.
