Jerry Butler As Cover Story Interview – March 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Jerry Butler. I am a husband, dad, grandpa, actor, director and soon to be author. I got my start in acting 36 years ago, while I was working in Mobile, AL. While on a shopping trip during my lunch break a salesperson in a department store asked me if I was a model, and suggested I look into it because I had “the look”. I contacted Barefoot Models and Talent and asked them what did I need to do to become a model. They informed me that for starters I needed a portfolio, so I took my own photographs and developed them in my darkroom and submitted them.

I then received a booking on a commercial, and after that I booked a print job for a carpet cleaning company as a technician. Shortly after this my daughter was born and we were transferred to TN. Life got busy with my full time position, so I did not pursue the acting/modeling again. Fast forward to 4 years ago, I started thinking about things to do when I retire, and I decided to try and re-start my acting/modeling work. I reached out to a local agent in Savannah, had an interview and signed a contract. I did a pharmaceutical commercial, as well as a background role in Origin, and Juror No. 2. Since then I have done nearly a dozen SCAD films, a few more commercials, and wrote and directed a film called Collateral Knowledge.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I met my first wife during college, and before graduation landed my dream job in procurement. I thought I had everything figured out. We were married for one year before she was killed in a car accident while I was away travelling on business. It really shook me to the core, and had it not been for my faith, I don’t know how I would have coped with the loss.

What do people usually not know about you?

I love to draw, and wanted to be an artist growing up. In high school I attended a vocational training center for commercial art, which included photography and offset printing. I quickly realized commercial art was not for me, as I did not enjoy lettering and “drawing on demand”. The photography portion turned out to be a passion for me, and I worked in a camera store during and for 2 years after high school. As I began to realize college was very important for my future, I entered college intending to be a physical therapist. However I did not continue with this major as I quickly realized I did not have the aptitude for the biology and sciences. I switched to business administration, which led me to a career in procurement. I am currently a sourcing director for a French specialty chemical manufacturer.

What sets you apart from others?

I am very gifted at interpersonal relationships, which comes across in my characters. I am humble and honest, so giving me direction will absolutely get you what your looking for on set.

What are your upcoming major events?

I will be welcoming our second Grandchild in the fall, which we are super excited about. I am also working on a children’s book that I hope to have finished and published with my own illustrations. I’m also writing a short horror story that I hope to turn into a short film early next year. All of this while waiting for my next film or commercial opportunity.

What expert advice would you like to give?

My advice would be to remind yourself every day to be grateful for what you have and for what you don’t. If it’s meant for you, it will happen when it is supposed to. Be kind to yourself and others..we are all doing the best we can, and you never know what someone else is dealing with that could be influencing their behavior.
