Jahi Minkah Trotter As Cover Story Interview – March 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I’m an actor, filmmaker, poet, cosplayer, and storyteller driven by human truth. I’ve spent over a decade creating films, performing on screen and stage, and building stories that explore identity, resilience, and transformation. I graduated with my MFA in Film and Television and continue to create work that blends cinematic style with emotional authenticity. At the core, I’m someone who believes storytelling can heal, challenge, and connect people across backgrounds.
Struggle — What hardships have you gone through in life?
Well, like many artists, my journey hasn’t been linear. I’ve experienced personal loss, including the passing of both of my parents, which deeply reshaped my perspective on life and purpose. I’ve also faced the challenges of navigating the entertainment industry without shortcuts — auditioning consistently, creating my own projects when opportunities didn’t come, and pushing forward even during seasons of doubt. Those struggles strengthened my resilience. They taught me discipline, emotional depth, and gratitude.
What do people usually not know about you?
People often see the creative output but don’t realize how analytical I am. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and love studying human behavior. I’m deeply influenced by literature, mythology, and classical storytelling structures. A lot of my characters are built from psychological research and emotional observation. Also, I’m much more introverted than people expect.
What sets you apart from others?
I don’t just act in stories, I build them. With experience in writing, directing, editing, and performing, I understand the full ecosystem of storytelling. That gives me a strong sense of character, pacing, and intention on set. I’m not chasing trends. I’m building longevity. My goal isn’t just visibility. It’s legacy. Something my parents always taught me.
What are your upcoming major events?
I continue developing original film projects and expanding my presence both in front of and behind the camera. After having work screened at film festivals, I’m focused on producing new stories that push genre and emotional boundaries. I’m also expanding into more dynamic roles that showcase both intensity and vulnerability.
