Jackie AKA The Poetic Therapist As Cover Story Interview – August 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Peace, I’m Jackie from the Bronx, NYC. The artistic world calls me Jackie the Poetic Therapist. The professional world knows me as Ms. Jackie, MSW. I’m a multidisciplinary creative who’s a mother, a mental health clinician, an educator, and a social worker. I’m a lover of life who breathes through music! I’m a poet, writer, lyricist, and curator—always chasing the roles that make my soul sing. Whether I’m called mommy, friend, sister, or God’s favorite, I show up fully, led by love, purpose, and poetry. The list can go on & on like Erykah Badu & her head wrap! (I Hope you can wrap your head around that lol!). Hey Queen!
What hardships have you gone through in life?
Life has thrown me storms the size of the Titanic with heat that could boil volcanic! I’ve carried the weight of single motherhood—raising a beautiful Black boy while holding space for the sacredness of Black joy. I’ve danced with depression, wrestled with anxiety, and walked barefoot through the sharp edges of survival. I navigate the world through a neurodivergent lens—living with ADHD in a society that wasn’t built with minds like mine in mind. It’s like being left-handed in a world built for the right. My thoughts can spiral like jazz riffs, but I’ve learned to make space for myself. Honoring the rhythm of my flow. Though my mind may not always move in straight lines, it does move with magical intention. And that, in itself, is a gift I’ve grown to protect.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is simple—I’m always me. No mask, no performance, just Jackie. I don’t move to fit into boxes or follow the crowd. I move in rhythm with my spirit, and that spirit was born to be free. I’m grounded in my values, God’s word and speak from my soul. If I said it, I meant it. And I take accountability for my actions. I’ve learned not to stress over what people assume about me but I’ll admit, it’s the lies believed about me that I struggle with. My character is connected to WHO I AM. What others think of me is about who they are! At the end of the day, I stand on who I am. I don’t conform—I express. I don’t blend in—I show up. And that’s not rebellion for the sake of it. That’s just me being real in a world that often forgets how.
What people usually don’t know about you?
You can’t jack what I write like it’s copywritten! Hahahaha! I’m witty, funny, and full of heart. I write every single day—not just as a poet, but as a writer committed to empowering lives, including my own. Writing has always been my lifeline. From poems and music to scripts and soul-stirring reflections, I create to inspire. My purpose is to spread love through any medium that aligns with my spirit. Creativity shows up in my words, my style, and the way I move through the world. I’m deeply educated—by life, by academia, and by grace. I’ve been reading and writing daily since childhood, with a self-made rule to learn at least two new words a day—just for fun. Music is the heartbeat of my world. Jay-z is my uncle in my head! I credit him for enhancing my ability to turn pain into powerful storytelling early on. I live my life like a song I never get tired of because one day, the story of my life will play on the record!
What are your upcoming major events?
Whew—loaded question! As a multi-dimensional artist, there’s always something brewing. Think podcasts, book releases, music, and creativity at its finest. Right now, I’m working on publishing my first book of poetry, a children’s storybook and co-creating a podcast with my bff Free over at @BusinessinaBag. I’m also collaborating on a few powerful projects with my artistic brothers—@thekindgenuis, @CharlieRock, @RonnieBrown, and @Poshington. We’re building for the blocks that never made it off the block! As a social worker, I’m currently working on expanding my health and wellness program for seniors, Empower Hour w/ Jackie. Big love to my Stanley Isaacs Center family and to Queen Khristel for believing in the vision! Lastly, my biggest poetic dream this year is to perform live at Poetry Me Please’s biggest showcase of the year, taking place this November. It would be an especially magical, full circle moment, as I had the honor of opening in their very first show of the year. I’m manifesting myself on that stage once again! Come on now, manifest this moment with me, y’all—it’s written in the stars!
What expert advice would you like to give?
Stay true to who you are! Don’t let someone else’s vision of you blur your own. Heal what hurts. No one is meant to do life alone, and community is essential. Not every friend is truly a friend, and not every foe is your enemy. Discernment is your superpower, so use it wisely. We are all creatives at heart—be the muse, inspire others, and allow yourself to be inspired. When you align with your true self, your potential flows naturally. You were created with purpose, and if you ever feel out of place, it’s simply a sign that you’re out of alignment, not out of purpose. Never give up!
