Giuseppe Arcieri As Cover Story Interview – November 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m Giuseppe Arcieri, an Italian film director and festival founder. I’m passionate about exploring human emotions and social themes through cinema, blending realism and poetry to tell stories that leave a mark. I also direct the South Italy International Film Festival, an event that celebrates independent cinema from around the world. My work “Medea” has been internationally acclaimed, winning multiple awards worldwide. It was a finalist at the Toronto Nollywood Film Festival and qualified for the Canadian Oscars. Medea is a short film that reinterprets the classical myth, exploring themes of betrayal, motherhood, and the complexity of human emotions in a modern context. The documentary “Rugiada di Vita” was awarded in New York and Paris. It tells the life story of Maria Picardi Coliac, a 97-year-old Italian painter from Barletta, highlighting her artistic journey, resilience, and international recognition. “Ombre nella Fede” had its trailer presented at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival within the Fédération des ciné-clubs italiens (FEDIC) Forum, Italy’s federation of film clubs promoting culture and independent cinema. This short film examines the conflict between personal belief and societal expectations, through a poetic and visually compelling narrative.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I was born with spuggastic paraparesis, a condition that has challenged me both physically and mentally. Yet, it taught me resilience, creativity, and the power of turning limits into opportunities. Every obstacle became a reason to express myself through art and cinema.

What do people usually not know about you?

People often don’t know how deeply I reflect before creating. Behind every project there is a long process of empathy, observation, and silence. People don’t know about the failures, the rejections, the thousand setbacks; they only see the success. I am also deeply inspired by art and music and the situations I experience, by the trips I take, which often influence my visual and narrative style.

What sets you apart from others?

In the stories I tell, I convey my emotions and transfer elements to the characters I create that have a profound effect on me and that I think can be interpreted universally, allowing the audience to empathize and understand what I want to say and feel at that moment.

What are your upcoming major events?

My latest short film, Ombre nella Fede (Shadows in Faith), is now part of an international crowdfunding campaign on Produzioni dal Basso. It’s a powerful and introspective work about spirituality, identity, and redemption. I’m also preparing the fifth edition of the South Italy International Film Festival, which continues to grow as a global platform for emerging filmmakers. And now I’m still working on a documentary of an important Italian scripter.

What expert advice would you give?

Never stop believing in your mission and vision, even when it seems like no one else does. Art needs sincerity, not perfection. Use your story, your pain, your joy, your truth, your curiosity, your enthusiasm to inspire others. Find the beauty of imperfection and never give up.
