Emanuel Austin As Cover Story Interview – April 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Emanuel Austin. I am a dancer, musician, and model. I consider myself a very positive person. Originally born in Tanzania, I moved to Germany when I was six years old. Together with my wife, Larissa Batch, I run a large dancing school here in Frankfurt, Germany.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

Coming to Germany as a young Black child was not easy; being the only Black kid in kindergarten meant constantly feeling the need to struggle and be better than everyone else. I also faced financial difficulties and had to become independent early, living alone in my own apartment from the age of 16, paying for everything myself by organizing parties and pursuing music and dance. The recent Corona pandemic also presented significant challenges. Despite these hardships, I maintain a positive outlook.

What do people usually not know about you?

Perhaps people don’t know the extent of my early independence – that I was living completely on my own at 16, supporting myself through my artistic endeavors like music, dancing, and organizing events while also getting my dance education. Also, my Tanzanian roots and the meaning behind my motto “Pamodja” (Swahili for “together”) might not be widely known.

What sets you apart from others?

My unwavering positive attitude and belief that everything is possible if you believe and take action (“Just do your thing”). I don’t wait for help; I keep going. Also, my unique background combines being a Tanzanian-born artist thriving in Germany, running a large dance school (currently 1200 students) with my wife, and pursuing careers as a dancer, musician, and model simultaneously. My philosophy of “Pamodja” – togetherness – is central to how I approach things.

What are your upcoming major events?

My main goals are growth and expansion. I aim to significantly grow my music and dancing career, aspiring to become a top international artist performing with dancers from my own school. For the school itself, the goal is to expand from the current 1,200 students to 3,000 students within the next two to three years.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Keep going, no matter what. Believe that everything is possible, but you have to take action and do it yourself – don’t wait for others to help you. Help others as much as you can, but don’t expect the same in return, and importantly, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Remember “Pamodja” – together, step by step, we gain power.
