Deneen L. Garrett As Cover Story – January 2024 Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Deneen L. Garrett, the Founder & CEO of Deneen L. Garrett LLC. I’m also a Women’s Empowerment Speaker, Creator and Host of the Women of Color: An Intimate Conversation podcast, a Dream Lifestyle Coach and, an emerging art curator/advisor.
Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?
I was raised in a loving two parent household until I was about 12 years old when my dad past. Prior, we went on family vacations, had family BBQs and spent time with my dad’s side of the family. After his death, my mom became a single mom of two girls. There were no more vacations and we no longer saw my dad’s side of the family. Thankfully, we still had the unwavering love and support of my mom’s side. My mom did a great job with us. We participated in various activities such as ballet, swimming, horseback riding. During high school, I traveled with my school to New York to see Broadway plays and to London, England, Paris, France and Madrid and Torremolinos, Spain. While in Torremolinos, we took a boat to Tangiers, Morocco. College took longer than it should because I went to a local university, changed my major three times and enjoyed “life lifing”.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
The biggest and most impactful was the loss of my dad. He and I were close. I get my drive and entrepreneurial spirit from him. It also has formed how I relate to others. While I’m a Queen at Relationship Building, I was unconsciously guarded when it came to intimate relationships. It’s something I’m aware of and intentionally navigating.
What do people usually not know about you?
Most don’t know I’m an introvert and used to be shy. I present as an extrovert, love attending events so folks are shocked.
