Colten Dietz (Director/Filmmaker) was recently interviewed by TheCelebrity.Online Magazine and here is the Q&A session we had with Colten.
Colten Dietz As Cover Story Interview – April 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
My name is Colten Dietz, and I grew up outside of the Hollywood bubble. I started making short films at just 12 years old, picking up my first camera and teaching myself through trial and error. As I moved into adulthood and stepped into the Hollywood space, I built my career through hands-on experience working on dozens of television shows and films, directing SAG actors, and forming lasting relationships with members across multiple union guilds. I’m a filmmaker driven by a passion for storytelling and a constant desire to challenge myself creatively. Rather than staying within one genre, I aim to explore a range of styles from psychological horror to grounded, character-driven drama while continuing to grow with every project and push the boundaries of my work.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
In school, I had an IEP, and I’ve always struggled with spelling. I have a strong ability when it comes to understanding language, vocabulary, and communication, but spelling has always been a weak point for me. Becoming a writer has helped me improve significantly, but I still face those challenges whenever I start writing a new screenplay.
What do people usually not know about you?
A lot of people don’t know that I never intended to go to school for filmmaking. Everything I’ve learned about the film industry has come through trial and error, working on professional productions, and learning from mentors who gave me invaluable advice—something I’ll always be grateful for.
What sets you apart from others?
I’ve noticed that many filmmakers tend to stay within their comfort zone, but I’m driven by the challenge of exploring different styles and pushing my creative limits.
What are your upcoming major events ?
As for major events coming up, we’re entering the marketing phase for the feature film I recently directed, Her Monster. I plan to submit it to numerous festivals, and I’m confident it has a strong chance of being accepted. We’re also tentatively planning a premiere in May, and I’m excited to bring everyone together again in the heart of the City of Angels.
What expert advice would you like to give?
My honest advice to anyone out there is this: if you want to make a film, don’t worry about the budget, film school, or obstacles that may get in your way. Pick up a camera and start creating. Don’t let fear or a lack of experience hold you back everyone has to start somewhere, and filmmaking is a craft that’s learned through doing.
