Cody Alexander Curtis As Cover Story Interview – June 2025 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

Cody Alexander Curtis – Actor, writer, producer, overall creative.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

To say my life has been easy would be a charming lie. Before I was ten years old, I was sexually assaulted. I’ve had a former creative business partner whip a knife out on me while I was driving this individual to work, and I’ve gone through a few devastating friendship breakups. These are just a sampling of the darker experiences of my past, however-I do not let this define who I am, but it is a useful tool to help empathize and strengthen the others around me.

What do people usually not know about you?

I have been acting since I was five (I just turned 29). I also directed my first feature film when I was 24 years old.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

I don’t look at the people around me as my competition. For me as a storyteller, if I start looking at the creatives around me as my competition, it will steal away my ability to be as present as I need to be when working on my craft and creating authentic connections with the people around me. In life, I have decided to ignore the message that actors need to constantly be hustling and driving our health and mental health into the ground for a chance of success. Saying that you need to work harder than a doctor, lawyer, or rocket scientist is absolute nonsense. We are in an industry of business and playing pretend, not saving lives. Comparing an actor to a heart surgeon is a bit excessive. Yes-it is possible to have a life and pursue an acting career and have both be fulfilling!

What are your upcoming major events?

  1. In three weeks (June 13th-22nd), the Schoolhouse Arts Center in Standish, Maine, will be having its opening night for The Laramie Project. We have been hard at work with this show for the past two and a half months now, and we, as a cast and crew, could not be more proud of the work we have put in and the journey this story has taken us. And we hope to see as many people there as possible.
  2. My creative partner Angelina Buzzelli and I are putting together a proof of concept for our feature screenplay – Whatever it Takes. This script has been in the works for the past five years, and for fourteen months, Angelina and I have been diligently working to make sure this story can be the most powerful story about generational trauma that we could, while also making it an entertaining story. We are proud of how this story has grown and how it keeps growing. From professionals, to the festival circuit, and interpersonal relationships, we have both heard only one thing – “This story needs to be told”

What expert advice would you like to give?

First of all, welcome to the first chapter of your story. You have made it. Never stop creating, and never stop being joyful. No matter what gets thrown your way it is important to remember to stay who you are. I have seen way too many people change who they are because they reach some level of success. If you want to keep going, be the kind of person you would want to work with on set. Be kind, be curious, be adventurous, take risks, be brave, be bold, and never let anyone and I mean ANYONE decide what you are made for. If you want to be a lead in movies you can be, if you want to write and direct continuously you can be. You can be anything you want. With the tools we have at our disposal, you can create the artistic life you are meant for. You started this journey for a reason. You were meant for this. Now get out there and start creating the beautiful stories your soul is calling you to create.
