Cari Sudmeier was recently interviewed by TheCelebrity.Online Magazine and below is the Q&A session we had with Cari.

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m a filmmaker with a passion for telling stories that highlight strong, complex women. My work often carries uplifting messages and emphasizes environmental themes. In my first film, Frequency Over Time, which I wrote, directed, and produced, the final line is “Love one another and the Earth.” I’m incredibly proud of that message and hope it inspires audiences to lead with love—for each other and for the planet.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I’ve faced many personal hardships, but through determination and deep inner work, I’ve been able to heal and move forward. I left home at seventeen and put myself through college, eventually earning a Master’s degree in Nursing from Loma Linda University. After 25 years in healthcare as a Nurse Practitioner, I’m now transitioning into filmmaking full-time—writing, directing, producing, and acting in projects that aim to make a meaningful impact.

I’ve continued my creative education through writing programs in Los Angeles, including The Writing Pad, and I’m a graduate of the Entertainment Business School. My past struggles have shaped me into someone with deep empathy and compassion. Balancing a demanding healthcare career with artistic pursuits hasn’t been easy. I spent years caring for patients while holding onto the dream of becoming a filmmaker. It took grit, sacrifice, and countless late nights, but I’ve finally reached the turning point—and I’m ready to step fully into this next chapter.

Interestingly, I believe this has been my destined path all along. My experience as a Nurse Practitioner prepared me for filmmaking in unexpected ways. The emotional depth, life perspective, and team leadership it required were all quietly preparing me for this moment.

What do people usually not know about you?

People often underestimate me. I may come across as easygoing and relaxed, but beneath that calm exterior is a powerhouse. I have a deep reservoir of strength and resilience, and I can take on enormous projects while making it all appear effortless. I subvert expectations—I lead with grace, but I’m also fiercely driven and laser-focused when it comes to getting the job done.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets me apart is my focus on people and relationships, both on screen and behind the scenes. I approach every project with integrity and believe in creating a safe, collaborative environment where everyone feels seen, respected, and empowered. As a filmmaker and a longtime Nurse Practitioner, I’ve learned how to lead with empathy and build strong, trusting teams. For me, human connection is everything—and that shows up in both my storytelling and the way I run a set.

What are your upcoming major events?

Two Graves, a short I co-produced and appeared in as a featured extra, just wrapped and is currently in post-production. The Drop Off, a comedy pilot I co-star in, premieres April 18, 2025, on the Phase3 Film Production Company’s YouTube channel. My own short film Frequency Over Time, which I wrote, directed, and produced, will have its New York premiere at the Love Wins Film Festival on May 4. I also have a pilot script and a feature film in development that I’m very excited about.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Don’t wait for permission. Start now—maybe small—but start. Your path will open when you commit to your voice. And protect your energy—burnout dims even the brightest spark.
